About

Todd Nelson, Ph.D., is a professor of psychology at California State University-Stanislaus, where he has taught for 28 years. His research specialization is in prejudice and stereotyping. He has published extensively over 20 years on one under-researched but growing problem: Ageism. He has had over two decades of experience publishing various scholarly books. He's published 3 editions (the 3rd is in press, with Guilford) of his textbook, The Psychology of Prejudice (third edition co-authored with his blog partner Michael Olson), and he published a separate reader, Classic and Contemporary Readings in Social Psychology (2018, with Sage).

He has also had extensive experience as an editor of scholarly volumes. He has edited a Handbook of Prejudice, Stereotyping, and Discrimination for 3 editions (3rd ed. is currently under contract, and in preparation) with Routledge, a book on Ageism for two editions (2002, 2017) with MIT Press, and a book for undergraduates and graduate students in social psychology called Getting Grounded in Social Psychology (2018, with Psychology Press). He is currently writing a book on loneliness for Academic Press.

He has also edited an issue of the Journal of Social Issues on Ageism in 2005 (Vol. 61, issue 2). He is a Fellow of the Society of Experimental Social Psychology.

Michael Olson, Ph.D., is a professor of social psychology at the University of Tennessee. Much of his research centers on implicit bias, measures of implicit cognition, prejudice reduction, and intergroup relations. More broadly, he applies a dual-process approach to a variety of domains, including prejudice correction, close relationships, sexual aggression, and, most recently, suicide. He is past associate editor of Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin and The Journal of Experimental Social Psychology. His research has been funded by the National Science Foundation, U.S. Department of Defense, and the Templeton Foundation. Along with Todd Nelson, he is co-author of The Psychology of Prejudice (Guilford Press). He also advocates for and conducts training sessions on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
