Welcome. Finding yourself on here means you have taken that first, and most likely scary, step towards seeking counselling. You may be experiencing ongoing issues (of any kind) or an unsettled period in your life and are looking for a safe environment to talk about and understand what you are experiencing. I am a qualified person-centred counsellor, but more than that, I am someone with a wealth of life experiences behind me. I believe that the combination of my training and these life experiences have helped me become a person who can offer empathy and compassion to those facing challenges.

In counselling we talk about psychological, emotional and behavioural problems that you wish to address. These conversations lead to better self-understanding, new ideas and an opportunity to shift perspective, ultimately leading to more contentment in life and more adaptive behaviours. These are therapeutic conversations which can console us or provoke us to change old unhelpful attitudes and behaviours. The work is done at an easy pace with no coercion. You are the expert on your own life and you set the agenda.

I believe that mental health difficulties are meaningful and understandable reactions to painful life events and situations, and so these are best treated with compassion, curiosity and respect. In this way, we may not only overcome problems, but gain a deeper understanding of ourselves and our values, leading to a more balanced, fulfilling and enjoyable life. With a warm, caring approach to creating safe and reflective relationships, I can offer brief, focused therapy to build coping skills and overcome specific problems, or more in-depth work to build insight and release ingrained ways of being.

Asking for help can be a monumental decision that requires a lot of courage. Finding the right therapist can be an equally difficult task. A therapeutic relationship needs to feel safe and collaborative, as it can serve as a foundation for healing.

I regularly see clients who are suffering from anxiety, sleep problems, chronic pain, weight issues, stress & worries, IBS, fears & phobias, low mood, emotional issues or PTSD/traumatic memories. People work with me when they haven't been able to free themselves of these issues completely, or at least regain the quality of life they want, through their own efforts or with the assistance of other therapies. Often they feel that they are battling with themselves - and what they want is to find a caring & knowledgeable guide who will help them draw on their own inner resources to experience life differently.

I have a passion in supporting young people and adults with their healing process, when challenged by times in their lives with issues they find too difficult to overcome alone. I am a genuine caring and compassionate Counsellor and Psychotherapist, with vast experience of working with children 11 years plus and adults. I offer a safe, non judgemental space, where we'll focus on your goals and aims of the sessions. At times we're not sure of what is troubling us and causing distress, but know that help is needed. Through exploration of your thoughts and feelings we can develop an understanding of your needs together.

We might find times in our lives when we are struggling to cope, feel anxious and depressed, lost and hopeless, or feel unhappy in relationships. Therapy can be a place to make sense of experiences both past and present, exploring repeated patterns that keep us stuck and prevent us from making the changes we would like to in life. My style of working is collaborative, where we explore together, in a supportive, confidential and non-judgemental space, the difficulties that you are currently facing.

I work with children who may be struggling with self-esteem, emotional regulation, family/ peer relationships, confidence or are not coping at school. They may have experienced trauma which continues to impact their emotional well being and everyday life. Often their parents/carers have tried many different strategies to support their child and are desperate for them to be happy and for their relationships to improve.

Making the decision to come and see a counsellor can be a daunting one at first, and for some it can feel overwhelming. One-to-one counselling is an important step towards helping you understand and identify the roots of your difficulties. You may be here because you feel you have hit rock bottom, or that you find yourself struggling with particular relationships. There are many valid reasons why we search out help for what can seem like impossible struggles.

I am trained as an integrative psychotherapeutic counsellor, which means I draw on a range of theories and concepts in our work together. Underpinning my work is my belief that we have a human desire to feel whole and connected, with ourselves and with others. Part of our work will be to explore those parts of your experience that may prevent you feeling this way. I am open to exploring any issue that you bring to counselling.

How can I find a therapist in NR2?

Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counsellors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counselling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
