I specialise in care for the emotionally traumatised, whether it be manifested in substance abuse or self-harm.
Pain, manifests in many varied ‘illnesses’. Whether they be Physical or Psychological. It could be Arthritis, ADHD, Addictions, Migraines, or Mental Ill Health. The root cause is always some environmental trigger, whether in childhood or adulthood. The Medical Institutions treat only the symptoms of this pain, not the causes. Pharmacotherapy can be beneficial in the short term, to alleviate intense physical or psychic pain, but Western Medicine, has demonstrably failed, to address the causes and manifestations, of chronic illness: physical or psychological. I offer an initial Assessment of causes, and self-care coping mechanisms

Hi! My name is Yann and, as an integrative therapist, I believe that there is no single approach that can work for every client in all situations. Each person needs to be considered as a whole, with respect, compassion and acceptance; counselling “techniques” must be tailored to their individual needs and personal circumstances, with care and encouragement. At the heart of my practice is the relationship with my clients - I strive to develop personal, open and transparent relationships - and, as a client, you can expect several things from me: warmth, openness, honesty and kindness.

Psychoanalysis or psychoanalytic psychotherapy is an open-ended conversation with no agenda and no time limit (i.e. number of sessions). The practice (Greek: Praxis) of psychoanalysis attends to the person who comes for analysis, to listen and witness their concerns, and to facilitate, if possible some kind of loosening of the strictures than bind and contort experience. I work with people with different needs under the rubric of mental distress.

I believe that therapy can help you see your current situation in a new light, with more depth and clarity. It can change unhelpful perspectives and feelings about yourself and your life, and ultimately help you make positive changes. It might be the most important and satisfying journey that you will ever make. Most of my clients are either dealing with a parental wound, childhood trauma, relationship problems, difficult endings, or are professionals challenged by stress, anxiety and/or low mood. I also help clients with addiction and attachment issues and those with couple and family difficulties.

I help people who have been affected by a loved one's addiction or other family dysfunctions to turn their focus away from the other person in order to achieve their own fulfillment.
The people I work with come from dysfunctional families where their needs, physical or emotional, were neglected or abused. This may result in addictions, and relationships difficulties. Codependents might try to support another or others while lacking the support they themselves need. A client wrote about our work together: "Yveline really helped me look at things that were holding me back in my life, & in a supportive way, helped me process them and understand how they impacted my life. I didn't know how much I needed this till I made a breakthrough and things made sense. I feel much better, with a clearer vision of my future."

Issues I have worked with include self-harm, suicidal thoughts and attempts, discrimination, issues related to LGBTQ, disordered eating, family & relationship problems, and substance misuse which is an area of interest.
Hi, I’m Matt, a BACP registered Humanistic Therapist. I am available for face to face sessions in Brighton and Hove and also work online and over the phone. Experiencing difficult feelings and struggling emotionally at times is a natural part of life. I can help with this. The problems may not go away but I can help make them feel smaller and lighter by helping you explore them at a pace you are comfortable with, in a safe, non-judgmental space. I believe everyone experiences the world uniquely and everything is valid.

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
