Are you having trouble sleeping? Feeling anxious and experiencing pained body & sadness that wont go away? Trauma can lead one's body to develop a sense of hyper-vigilance. This is when one becomes continually tensed, as though the body is “braced” awaiting threats to happen. Ongoing patterns of stress & tension can manifest as chronic pain/fatigue, digestive issues, hormonal imbalances, PTSD-anxiety, insomnia, sexual and/or immune system dysfunctions. The intention of Somatic Therapy is to enhance your capacity to self heal by freeing the body, breath & energy flow through the practice of self awareness and self-compassion.

Hello, I am Autumn! I work largely with play, expressive and nature based therapy. I work with children, teens, and adults. Play is how children communicate so there is no better way to work with the concerns that are close at heart then through play for little ones. Don't think that play is only for kids though - expressive therapy like painting, clay, movement, and other creative ways of being can help even those of us that doubt we are "artistic" reach a deeper level of self-connection and authenticity. Nature is a wonderful way to feel connection to something bigger than us while increasing our grounding and mindfulness skills.

Health and well-being have been a central tenet of my life for over a decade now. My history as a health care professional has informed my counselling in that I believe any challenge we encounter will see impacts in our emotions, our thoughts, and our physical body. By tuning into all three, we can turn signs of distress into sources of insight, and as resources for self-soothing and emotional management. To that end, EMDR is my preferred approach for assisting clients in facing and moving through traumas big and small, integrated with elements of mindfulness, self-compassion, skill-building, and role-play techniques.

You may understand yourself quite well and still feel stuck. Certain reactions, relationship patterns, or difficulties with emotion may keep returning, even when part of you knows they no longer fit the present. My therapy is grounded in real life and focused on meaningful change rather than insight alone. I am practical in how I work, and I want clients to leave sessions with clearer understanding, a meaningful shift, and next steps they can use in everyday life.

if your emotions feel like tidal waves, rising fast, crashing hard, and leaving wreckage in their wake, i’m here to support you. if you’ve ever been told you’re too sensitive, too reactive, too much… you’ve probably learned to brace yourself against your own heart. i help people like you come home to it instead. i’m built for big feelings. yours won’t scare me. whether you’re melting down, shutting off, or swinging from one storm to the next, i know the terrain. i don’t just tolerate emotional intensity i understand it from the inside out, and i help people learn to live with it, not against it.

At some point, something shifted. Maybe a relationship you counted on started fracturing. Maybe the faith community or career that once defined you no longer fits. Maybe you're figuring out who you are or who you're allowed to be for the first time. That kind of disorientation is exhausting. And it often comes with a particular loneliness, because the people around you don't always understand what you're going through.

Hello and welcome! If you reading my personal statement you have taken that first step to reach out for help or support. For some of you this first step might have been easy, for many others starting the search took some time. And choosing a counsellor by having a brief conversation is next. I start the counseling process exactly where you are. Using a style that is collaborative and gentle, but can switch to using humour and challenge if that works better for you.

I often work with people who are used to holding everything together for others, while quietly struggling on their own. You may be the person others rely on, the one who keeps going, keeps caring, and keeps pushing through even when you’re overwhelmed. Somewhere along the way, you may have learned to hold your emotions in, overthink everything, or put your own needs aside just to get by. Often, these ways of coping began as a way to navigate difficult experiences, relationships, or environments. Sometimes, you just know something doesn’t feel okay, even if you can’t fully explain why.

Obsessive Compulsive Therapist. Obsessive thoughts can range from replaying conversations to images and thoughts that scare and exhaust you. Do you notice a persistent feeling of uncertainty and a need to feel safe? You may have impulses to repeat actions or seek endless reassurance that never satisfies the fear that your partner will leave you. There are many ways you can feel compelled to check things online, count, or reread to find a sense of ease. Even though these strategies offer a moment's rest, the same unease returns. These thoughts and rituals interfere with work and relationships, particularly during stressful times.

If we all could have the option to be supported and heard with our struggles, to be connected and cared for, perhaps our ability to move through them and towards our goals would be different. What is it you wish to shift, where would your life be right now? How can I help you get there? If you are a victim of crime you may be eligible for counselling through CVAP. I am an approved CVAP counsellor.

We sometimes find ourselves lacking in the opportunity to experience joy, creativity, meaning, and connection in our lives. At Ohana, we support the exploration of what it is that may be preventing you from being the person you want to be and healing in a way that allows you to have these experiences.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Most Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are certified by one of the main professional associations, mainly the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and will have a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) designation with their name. Social Workers listed in the directory must be registered members of the college specific to their province. To be listed in the directory, Psychologists must be registered with the psychological college specific to their province or territory.

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given the considerable variation in professional regulation and prerequisites across Canadian provinces, some providers may possess significant professional qualifications without necessarily holding professional memberships or being obliged to acquire them. As a result, they may be selectively included without the "Verified" seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in Canada.

Psychologists have a master's and/or doctoral degree and have passed both written and oral exams. Psychologists are able to complete mental health assessments and provide diagnostic information to clients as well as provide counselling therapy or psychotherapy. Counsellors and psychotherapists are expected to have a master's or doctoral degree in counselling psychology, social work, or a related mental health discipline and certification by a professional association, such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Registered Social Workers possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work and where possible must be licensed or certified by the provincial government and/or regulatory college.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in Canada could be between $100 and $200. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. Some types of outpatient mental health services are covered by Medicare, provided these are performed by a licensed mental health professional in the provinces or territory you reside in and who accepts the assignment.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postal code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Professionals licensed by regulatory colleges and those certified by associations such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association are obligated to uphold client confidentiality unless there is a legal reason that requires them to disclose information. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others, or a court order, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
