My ideal client will be ready for a positive change - believing in themselves and their accomplishments! I believe in good conversations and building relationship through Trust, Respect and Confidentiality. Each and everyone of them are unique and they have their own stories to share in a Safe Space without being judged. There are many issues that can affect an individual - the goal is that they feel heard, as someone is listening to them without any biases. At times, people remain in denial as this service could be taboo for them. This can shift through awareness, education and advocacy. This is their very own precious journey ....

As a counsellor, I use my life experience to connect with my clients. I have lived my own transformation. I learned that the path forward is sometimes tricky and filled with uncertainty. I have always sensed a higher power supporting me. Connecting to this higher power has allowed me to give up my past anxious and frenetic controlling behaviours. I believe my clients find me for a reason, and there is a purpose behind them seeking help from me—so I answer the call, and I show up to support. I encourage others to see the light, the gift, the beauty within themselves.

For many, counselling is an opportunity to evaluate life changes, relationships stressors, and attachment patterns. For others, it can be their only opportunity to emphasize time for themselves and to experience feeling like they are a priority. I recognize the courage and vulnerability it takes to self-reflect and identify areas which you would like to develop insight and emotional intelligence in. I encourage my clients to attach themselves to the process of personal growth and self-discovery rather than simply the end goal, as this creates opportunities to generate self-compassion and gratitude for your strengths and abilities.

It can feel like a heavy and exhausting life, managing the constant churning in your mind in parallel with keeping up with everything that you have on your plate. You may have heard that counselling can help but it's hard to imagine how. You may be thinking the problems are obvious I just need to logically map my way out of this. Many years back with a scientist's perspective, it was hard for me to imagine how counselling could possibly help me out of it. Many years of training and practice later, I have humbly witnessed numerous clients overcoming problems and experiencing new possibilities, identities and futures.

Sometimes it’s hard to notice when things aren't going well. It might be subtle signs that pop up at the end of the day. You feel like the day is going well and you’re keeping busy. But as soon as you have a moment of silence, your mind starts to cycle through things that you just don't want to think about. Do you find it hard to sit still and be at peace in these moments? Do you distract yourself as much as possible just so you don’t listen to your own thoughts? Maybe you have a hard time completing any of your important tasks? These are all normal reactions. Signals that your body is giving you to pay attention to.

Many issues can effect each and every one of us at any point in our lives. Parent/teen conflict, abuse, trauma, depression, anxiety, addiction, family issues, and self-esteem are some of the concerns we may face. Dealing with these problems in the light of life's responsibilities can become that much more challenging. Problems have a way of making us forget about our strengths, survival skills, knowledge, and abilities. In my approach, I work collaboratively with individuals/couples/families to investigate the influence of the problem(s), decrease it's effects, and open up possibilities of lasting change.

We all live complex lives and are having to face an ever-changing environment. This can be immensely stressful. We all experience challenges in our lives but we do not always have the clarity or skills to effectively navigate our way through them. We then either get stuck or continue to go through life living on auto-pilot. To create a meaningful life, we need to reconnect with ourselves, the things we value and fine tune our skills to attain our goals. Working through challenges in our past or those in the present in a supportive, therapeutic environment can help us build a fuller and more meaningful life.

The people I work with often tell me they experience intense, difficult emotions that are hard to control, often leading to harmful coping behaviours and relationship turmoil. Taking a behavioural approach, we work together to develop strategies and tools that support a more fulfilling life—what is referred to in DBT as a "life experienced as worth living.” Wellness tools and strategies we use are informed by DBT, ACT, CBT, mindfulness, and narrative therapy, but I believe it is the trusting and supportive relationship we build that forms the foundation upon which this challenging yet rewarding work is done.

You may be feeling lost, alone, miserable, exhausted, or without a purpose. Maybe you don't know what you're supposed to be doing with your life. You may feel pressure because you still haven't got it all figured out. You may feel like a robot: going through the motions - waking up, working, going home, entertainment, sleeping, then repeating this every day. And something feels like it's missing. You may feel empty. Unhappy. Unfulfilled. Unsatisfied. Numb. Like life is passing you by. You are interested in growth and perhaps are going through an awakening of sorts. It may feel like there is no one else who understands this.

What type of mental health professional is right for me?
Some of the most common types of mental health providers in V4C are psychologists, licensed counselors, therapists, psychotherapists, and licensed clinical social workers, all of whom diagnose mental health conditions and provide individualized treatment.

Services offered, education and credentials vary by type of mental health professional. Each professional in V4C then may specialize in certain areas, such as depression, marriage counseling, or anxiety. Although many mental health providers are not licensed to prescribe medication, they may coordinate with a provider who can.

Both in-person and online therapy sessions are available from most psychologists.

How to find a specialist?
You can refine your search using the filters on this page. There are several categories you can filter by to find mental health professionals with the experience you are looking for. You may want to filter for CBT Psychologists in V4C, or Child Psychologists in V4C.

Many find it useful to use filters to view only psychologists that have experience working with certain issues, like V4C psychologists specializing in EMDR.

What method of therapy is right for me?
When it comes to treatment methods, there's no 'right way.’ Each method of therapy can be beneficial for a variety of issues. Psychologists in V4C specialize in therapeutic approaches such as CBT, EMDR, and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), among others. Finding a psychologist or therapist who is a good fit for you is the most important step to discovering what type of therapy, or combination of therapeutic approaches, will meet your individual needs. Learn what to expect from different types of therapy and how they work.

How to use my insurance?
Many therapists accept health insurance. Check to see if your insurance is covered. Feel free to discuss this when you contact the therapist.
