Suffering from a lot of "yucky stuff"? Like nagging thoughts, painful feelings, distressing memories or even bodily aches & pains. Find your self reacting instead of responding? Like trying to escape, avoid, distract, deny or using other controlling behaviours to relieve this pain and hurt. This may have short-term pay-offs with long- term costs to yourself. Learn ways to ‘unhook' from the yucky stuff by increasing your psychological flexibility. Psychological flexibility is the ability to notice what you are doing and choosing what works to get you where you want to go, even in the presence of obstacles (all that “yucky stuff”).

While the journey of life can offer so much to be grateful for, we all face adversity and challenges that can impact our mental health. The right supports can make a world of difference in navigating the complexities of our emotional well-being. Whether it's a place to reflect and process, to make sense, or to heal, a collaborative and supportive therapeutic relationship can be a key component to understanding our experiences and therefore ourselves more fully. Gaining insight and self-awareness often leads to clarity and direction, with the possibility of aligning to our most authentic selves.

These are unprecedented times, rife with unprecedented challenges. The uncertainty of the situation, the lack of a map for understanding the present and envisioning the future, is a source of chronic stress for almost everyone one, and takes a particularly heavy toll on some. Its impacts are being felt at every level, experienced in ways that continue to evolve and that may be overwhelming. We are all new to this situation, but we are not new to grappling with unforeseen problems or having to pick our way though the unknown. Helping people to do that, even in ordinary times, is what my work is all about.

If you have had traumatic or painful events. if you are in toxic relationships, or if you have addictions, keep reading because I may be able to help you. On a warm Tuesday morning in September, my mother died after a period of great suffering. I could not imagine my life without her, and I did not have any idea how my life was going to continue. Her doctor encouraged me to see my mother’s death as though it had brought her freedom. Freedom was a concept that I had never known before; sadness and pain were what I knew. On that day, I started my search of freedom until I found it years later.

I recognize that it may be difficult to speak to someone about your concerns - know that my job is to listen and help but never to judge. I work with children, teens and adults, to support all of life's challenges ranging from behavioural concerns, low self esteem, lack of confidence, suicidal ideation, self harm, anxiety, depression and life adjustment. I enjoy parent consultation and family therapy, and have experience in both counselling and assessments (adoption, mental health and psycho-educational assessments). I use behavioural coaching, CBT, EFT and narrative therapy to support my clients, as well as play and art methods.

For me, well-being comes from the knowledge that no matter what life throws at you, you have the tools you need to courageously and compassionately face it. It comes from knowing that you have the strength and ability to cope with any uncertainty. And, we can face and get through anything when we know how to support ourselves. Many of us were not taught the skills or given the tools we need to get through life’s challenges. Nor were we taught how to treat ourselves in a loving, supportive way. We can change this.

I believe each person is the expert in their own life but sometimes along our journey the lens through which we see the world and ourselves becomes a bit muddied and this impacts the way we behave and react to new experiences. My role in your journey is to help you see clearly again through that lens so you can get back to living more true to your authentic self. I work primarily from an attachment lens and have a gentle, yet direct approach to therapy. I work best with clients who aren't afraid to bring a little humor into sessions when appropriate and safe to do so.

It can be hard to step into life the way you want when struggling with painful thoughts, emotions, or experiences. Asking for help takes courage and I work hard to provide a safe and authentic space to support you. I am passionate about working with people who feel hijacked by their thoughts and emotions, and with couples who are finding it difficult to feel securely connected. In therapy we work collaboratively so that you can gain new insight, experience peace, and find creative, workable ways to tackle difficult behavioural, emotional, or interpersonal problems.

“Dementia Caregiver Specialist” – featured in Dementia Connections Magazine, Fall 2018. Caregiving can be uniquely rewarding, and incredibly demanding. Caring for someone with a mild cognitive impairment, or dementia, may leave you feeling overwhelmed, sad, anxious, and irritable. At times you may experience frustration and resentment - sometimes followed by guilt and/or shame for having these feelings? There may be historical relationship issues involved, further complicating matters. Feeling like your life is on hold - having the time to take care of yourself, do the things you enjoy, may be a distant memory.

I have been in the helping profession for 20 years and a therapist for over10 years. In that time I have heard the stories of many people. What I know for sure is that the desire for healing is common and yet each story is unique. I would be honoured to hear your story and assist you in finding your own unique path to wellness.

What type of mental health professional is right for me?
Some of the most common types of mental health providers in T2W are psychologists, licensed counselors, therapists, psychotherapists, and licensed clinical social workers, all of whom diagnose mental health conditions and provide individualized treatment.

Services offered, education and credentials vary by type of mental health professional. Each professional in T2W then may specialize in certain areas, such as depression, marriage counseling, or anxiety. Although many mental health providers are not licensed to prescribe medication, they may coordinate with a provider who can.

Both in-person and online therapy sessions are available from most psychologists.

How to find a specialist?
You can refine your search using the filters on this page. There are several categories you can filter by to find mental health professionals with the experience you are looking for. You may want to filter for CBT Psychologists in T2W, or Child Psychologists in T2W.

What method of therapy is right for me?
When it comes to treatment methods, there's no 'right way.’ Each method of therapy can be beneficial for a variety of issues. Many therapists accept health insurance. Check to see if your insurance is covered. Feel free to discuss this when you contact the therapist.
