Do you struggle with anxiety and self-worth that affects your life, relationships, and your work? Do you feel overwhelmed and frustrated by your own self-talk, emotions and expectations? Do you wonder if your relationship with yourself, others, and the world around you could be better? Now more than ever, individuals are feeling exhausted, battling with the requirements of life as their anxiety, past, and self-worth are interfering with their ability to live life to the fullest, impacting their relationships with themselves and others. I believe it shouldn't be so hard to live the life you want.

I believe that a strong collaborative and connected therapeutic relationship is the foundation of successful therapy. In our work together I strive to create a safe empathetic space where you truly feel seen and heard ,allowing for genuine exploration and growth. I view therapy as a partnership, where we work together to identify your goals and overcome the challenges that stand in the way. Whether you’re feeling stuck ,overwhelmed, or seeking more direction in your life, identifying and coping with the barriers holding you back from the life you envision can be a useful starting point.

If you have had traumatic or painful events, or if you are in toxic relationships, keep reading because I may be able to help you. On a warm Tuesday morning in September, my mother died after a period of great suffering. I could not imagine my life without her, and I did not have any idea how my life was going to continue. Her doctor encouraged me to see my mother’s death as though it had brought her freedom. Freedom was a concept that I had never known before; sadness and pain were what I knew. On that day, I started my search of freedom until I found it years later.

These are unprecedented times, rife with unprecedented challenges. The uncertainty of the situation, the lack of a map for understanding the present and envisioning the future, is a source of chronic stress for almost everyone one, and takes a particularly heavy toll on some. Its impacts are being felt at every level, experienced in ways that continue to evolve and that may be overwhelming. We are all new to this situation, but we are not new to grappling with unforeseen problems or having to pick our way though the unknown. Helping people to do that, even in ordinary times, is what my work is all about.

Feeling stuck? Worried that things won't get better? Have you been putting off more tasks and feeling further behind? Sometimes the stress from our relationships, responsibilities, work and family demands can feel overwhelming. In times of uncertainty, we may find it especially tricky to manage what we used to manage. Feeling demotivated, alone or hopeless can be common experiences after going through adversities or trauma. We may want company but find ourselves taking a step back or feeling anxious to talk with others. We want to feel better in order to do more, but uncertain with where to start.

Hello, I’m Tyler. My practice is dedicated to helping people navigate major loss and life transitions. In times of change, uncertainty is both natural and disheartening, often leaving us feeling lost and directionless. Have you recently faced a significant adjustment in your personal or professional life—perhaps a tough decision, the end of a meaningful relationship, or the loss of a loved one? These experiences can be overwhelming, draining your energy and making it difficult to move forward. However, with the right tools and support, you can navigate these transitions more constructively and begin to create the life you envision.

Therapy and healing from past negative experiences is a journey and having effective support along the way is invaluable. With over 20 years experience working in mental health, I believe that one of the most powerful elements in healing and achieving a life worth living is authenticity in the therapeutic relationship. I strive to bring compassion, humour, safety, respect and acceptance to the therapeutic process. Together, we will work to learn new effective coping skills, build on current strengths, take on new challenges that are in alignment with your personal values and goals and heal from past painful experiences.

I recognize that it may be difficult to speak to someone about your concerns - know that my job is to listen and help but never to judge. I work with teens and adults, to support all of life's challenges ranging from low self esteem, lack of confidence, suicidal ideation, shame, self harm, anxiety, depression and life adjustment. I use EMDR, CBT, IFS, and narrative therapy to support my clients. In sessions with me, you can expect genuineness, humor, and compassion as we practice different strategies. I approach therapy the way I want my therapist to be there for me, from a place of equality and guided discovery together.

Accepting new clients. Reaching out for help can be overwhelming and especially difficult when you are looking for support to understand, process, and heal from challenging life experiences. You may find yourself feeling sadness, shame, or worry following experiences that are tough to talk about, resulting in numbness or isolation. You may be struggling to connect with yourself and others. Maybe you want to better understand these events and how they are impacting your life now. You may feel increasingly ready to move through and beyond the difficulties you face, to embrace what feels more like the real you.

I've been in the helping profession for over 20 years. What I know for sure is that the desire for healing is common and yet each story is unique. I excel at utilizing effective interventions to address feelings and experiences that feel distressing and "stuck". This can look like not knowing how to move forward, knowing but struggling to make changes, or feeling lost or confused about how to reduce distress. I would be honored to hear your story.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Most Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are certified by one of the main professional associations, mainly the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and will have a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) designation with their name. Social Workers listed in the directory must be registered members of the college specific to their province. To be listed in the directory, Psychologists must be registered with the psychological college specific to their province or territory.

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given the considerable variation in professional regulation and prerequisites across Canadian provinces, some providers may possess significant professional qualifications without necessarily holding professional memberships or being obliged to acquire them. As a result, they may be selectively included without the "Verified" seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in Canada.

Psychologists have a master's and/or doctoral degree and have passed both written and oral exams. Psychologists are able to complete mental health assessments and provide diagnostic information to clients as well as provide counselling therapy or psychotherapy. Counsellors and psychotherapists are expected to have a master's or doctoral degree in counselling psychology, social work, or a related mental health discipline and certification by a professional association, such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Registered Social Workers possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work and where possible must be licensed or certified by the provincial government and/or regulatory college.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in Canada could be between $100 and $200. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. Some types of outpatient mental health services are covered by Medicare, provided these are performed by a licensed mental health professional in the provinces or territory you reside in and who accepts the assignment.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postal code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Professionals licensed by regulatory colleges and those certified by associations such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association are obligated to uphold client confidentiality unless there is a legal reason that requires them to disclose information. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others, or a court order, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
