We all experience challenges in life and can benefit from some extra support. The process to begin therapy can be daunting, but I strive to offer a warm and welcoming environment. I focus on addressing various personal challenges such as anxiety, depression, chronic stress, self-esteem issues, relationship challenges, and trauma processing. I believe in working from a collaborative approach, where we work together to reach your goals. It is important to me to offer a place where we can build a solid connection, create a supportive and non-judgmental space to explore your inner conflicts, challenges, and/or relationship difficulties.

Being a mom is hard and there is nothing wrong with you for struggling to enjoy it. I know that it’s easy to lose your direction and sense of self in motherhood but you shouldn’t have to face this journey alone. As a mom of two who has walked the path of burnout, exhaustion, and despair in motherhood: I want you to know it doesn’t have to be this way. As a maternal mental health specialist, I compassionately support mothers to find fulfillment as they navigate this season of life. I work with clients to develop self-compassion, reclaim wellness, and shift narratives of motherhood. You deserve to not only survive, but to thrive.

I've seen many in the world of mental health try to artificially separate mental health concerns into neat boxes, as if clients are going to conveniently fit into a box. I believe this is unrealistic at best, and harmful at worst - people need to be understood in their entirety, and therapy should adapt to the whole of what they present. Clients who are working to overcome the barriers of mental health struggles, while also trying to thrive in relationships, work, school, and other important domains of life.

Those dreaded words... You’ve got cancer. You’ve got MS. You’ve got diabetes. Hearing these words from your doctor can be shocking, scary, and defeating. You feel overwhelmed, scared, and are uncertain about where to turn for help.

You are feeling overwhelmed and wish life was easier for you. Socializing, working, household tasks, and taking care of loved ones have become too difficult. I offer counselling services to people who are concerned about their mental health. I work with people who struggle with: burnout, procrastination, social anxiety, motivation, overthinking, hopelessness, worrying, and sleeping. It is emotionally and physically exhausting to experience strong emotional reactions often. It is confusing to understand the root of what is contributing to the overwhelm.

Would you like to feel motivated by life? Cultivate genuine, loving relationships? Feel comfortable in your skin, regardless of what life throws your way? Well you’re certainly not alone! Connection, self-esteem, and self-actualization have all been identified as human needs—essential to our mental health and well-being. Unfortunately, certain emotional, behavioural, or relational patterns can act as barriers to these needs, quelling our personal growth, and leaving us confined to oppressive cycles of anxiety and distress. Relate to any or all of the above? I think we all can—and perhaps I can help.

I believe people do the best they can, with what they know and understand. Due to circumstances out of their control, people may not have the tools needed to thrive, grow, and better understand themselves and their experiences. Resiliency is strengthened by cultivating the skills and tools to navigate personal challenges and changes in life. Hope transpires when we believe in the possibility of change. Seeking therapeutic support is an instrumental part of recovery and can be transformative.

How can I find a therapist in T2Z?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

How much does therapy cost?

Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
