Getting connected with a therapist can be difficult. I ask you to contact with basic information, your availability and a phone number. We discuss your needs, my qualifications and how we'll be working together. My approach to counselling is informal, but goal focused. Taking on only a few clients allows me to genuinely focus. Rates are per session and results may be noticeable within four to six sessions. Counselling is a safe place to be honest and share with a professional who has concern and the ability to walk you through the change needed for you to be healthier and happier. Connect if I can be that help.

So many parents feel blindsided by how differently parenting feels than what they expected - we are told that we will be exhausted, but filled with joy. And while there may be joy, we also often experience feelings of grief, ambivalence, helplessness and rage. We are confronted by the limits of our control in so many ways, and are more consumed with worry for our child and getting everything just right than we could have ever imagined. Our relationship with our partner may feel foreign and hard, and the ways that we would normally care for ourselves feel out of reach. Perhaps we think, should it be this hard?

Have you become aware of unhealthy patterns of behaviour in your life preventing you from realizing your potential? Do you tend to find yourself in the same circumstances/relationships that you vowed not to repeat? I practice a type of dynamic psychotherapy (ISTDP) that aims to uncover and address the root causes of your problems. This work does require a willingness to focus inward. Together we will work to bring awareness to the underlying unconscious emotional conflicts that are driving the unwanted behavioural patterns and symptoms.

In life we there are many paths to take; some are laid out for us, others we opt out of, and some come at a crossroads. Knowing what to do can become challenging and giving ourselves the space to explore where we are going or how we got there, can be a difficult process to undertake. Whether you find yourself lost, tired, and or uncertain, know that you do not have to come to these places alone. As someone on their own journey I understand the value of making sense and meaning of the stories we tell about ourselves, as these are the stories that will speak to how we view ourselves, others, and or communicate with the people we love.

Living a full and satisfying life is never easy, and can oftentimes be lonely and overwhelming. Nobody can or should “go it alone.” You may want to grow, learn, or tackle obstacles in your path. Or perhaps you simply want to relax and be heard. Regardless, you have come to a good place. My goal as a therapist and human being is to accompany you on your personal journey, supporting you in the ways you want, helping you realize who you might want to be, and providing you with tools/strategies to help you in a safe, inclusive, and non-judgmental environment.

How can I find a therapist in N2L?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

How much does therapy cost?

Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
