Through the activity of play I help children to make sense of difficult life experiences (e.g. divorce, death of a loved one) and navigate the big feelings (e.g. anxiety, anger, sadness) that are often at the root of challenging behaviour. I support children and their caregivers become more able to cope with how they are feeling, develop insight, emotional intelligence and confidence.

Throughout our lives we face many challenges; at times these can exceed our ability to problem solve and cope, even with the assistance of family and friends. At these times the professional assistance of a psychologist can be immensely helpful. I am a licensed psychologist with over 25 years of experience. I am qualified to diagnose and treat any mental health disorder. I am also a health/rehabilitation psychologist, helping clients address the stress and depression associated with either chronic/acute illnesses, infertility and medical treatment. We often go through life experiencing challenges that are unique to our own personal relationships, schooling/careers, self-discovery/development, or spiritual/religious journeys. It is with this understanding that mental health issues and life's emotional struggles can be personalized to each and every individual, understood and emphasized from your particular point of view. Anxiety, depression, relationship issues, self-esteem and/or vocational challenges can all interconnect and weave together to form a complex, yet complicated picture of your particular struggles.

Life is challenging and it is easy to begin to feel overwhelmed by situations, relationships, life events and world events that just seem (or sometimes truly are) out of our control. Finding hope again is possible! As a psychotherapist, my goal is to walk with you for a period of time to help you to navigate through some of those difficult situations, life changes and events. Sometimes it is just important to know that you are not alone in facing the challenges of life.

It is a place where together, we can navigate life’s many challenges and work to develop strength and resilience. I hope to offer a safe and supportive space in which to process, heal, and grow, and work to bring insight, awareness, and self-compassion into the therapy space. Therapy can be a space to discuss any topic, and focuses on accessing and creating resources, exploring emotions, understanding thoughts and behaviours, and aims to support overall growth.

I know that it's not easy to reach out for counselling and therapeutic support when life feels overwhelming and difficult in some or in many areas. This is why I work with individuals, couples and families in a spirit of profound respect and compassion at all stages of the therapeutic process. My approach to helping clients in therapy is to create an emotionally warm and accepting space where we can explore what difficulties you are encountering, what goals you hope to achieve and what resources and strengths are at your disposal that you may have forgotten or not be aware of.

I offer a collaborative, empathetic, compassionate, and non-judgmental approach to counselling where you can feel safe, comfortable, and respected. I use integrative counselling theories that can offer help building skills and tools to help handle difficult life transitions, mental health concerns, stress, and everyday struggles.

I am very honoured to support my clients on their journey to connect more deeply with themselves and their loved ones. Clients who seek my support often speak of challenges in the present moment that are connected to past experiences with trauma, complex/developmental trauma; grief & loss; power & control; anxiety & depression; difficult life transitions; and challenging relationships. Together, we explore establishing safety, listening to their emotions; sitting with challenging body sensations; connecting with authenticity; understanding and deepening close relationships; and, reconnecting with life energy, playfulness, and joy.

Are things piling up and feeling like too much? Are you minimizing your pain? Do you pour energy into the things that sap your soul? Do you need a safe space to be understood and return to yourself? To remember who you are? If you are ready to begin looking at yourself with acceptance and compassion, I am waiting for your call. There are reasons for your current struggles and suffering. My philosophy is that you are already wired with many strengths and that we all need a little help along the way to get ourselves where we need to go.

“Child and Youth Specialists” You’ve noticed that your child isn’t quite themselves lately, that they are withdrawn, and isolated, or struggling with severe anxiety. Maybe they are experiencing intense mood swings, anger outbursts, or even destructive behaviours such as self-harm or substance use. You are worried because your child won’t open up and share with you. You want to help your child, but you don't know how to. It is so scary to feel helpless when it comes to your child and to not know exactly what they need.

Difficult life experiences can have a profound effect on our psychological and physical health, at times creating tightly held patterns in our minds and bodies. Learning to feel our way through can be challenging - it can also be very freeing. With a genuine concern for your well-being, and a warm and compassionate approach, I will work with you to help draw forth the intuitive healer that is already within you. Whether you prefer traditional talk therapy and/or mindfulness-based coping strategies, the journey will be an inward one as you move forward.

What type of mental health professional is right for me?
Some of the most common types of mental health providers in N2L are psychologists, licensed counselors, therapists, psychotherapists, and licensed clinical social workers, all of whom diagnose mental health conditions and provide individualized treatment.

Services offered, education and credentials vary by type of mental health professional. Each professional in N2L then may specialize in certain areas, such as depression, marriage counseling, or anxiety. Although many mental health providers are not licensed to prescribe medication, they may coordinate with a provider who can.

Both in-person and online therapy sessions are available from most psychologists.

How to find a specialist?
You can refine your search using the filters on this page. There are several categories you can filter by to find mental health professionals with the experience you are looking for. You may want to filter for CBT Psychologists in N2L, or Child Psychologists in N2L.

Many find it useful to use filters to view only psychologists that have experience working with certain issues, like N2L psychologists specializing in EMDR.

What method of therapy is right for me?
When it comes to treatment methods, there's no 'right way.’ Each method of therapy can be beneficial for a variety of issues. Psychologists in N2L specialize in therapeutic approaches such as CBT, EMDR, and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), among others. Finding a psychologist or therapist who is a good fit for you is the most important step to discovering what type of therapy, or combination of therapeutic approaches, will meet your individual needs. Learn what to expect from different types of therapy and how they work.

How to use my insurance?
Many therapists accept health insurance. Check to see if your insurance is covered. Feel free to discuss this when you contact the therapist.
