Although my approach is tailored to best support each individual's unique needs, I draw heavily on AEDP and attachment-based theories.
Starting a counselling journey takes courage; I honour your decision to explore it. I take a collaborative and holistic approach to supporting mental, emotional, embodied, and spiritual healing, depending on a person’s unique needs, goals, and hopes. I love walking alongside clients as they grow into fuller, more authentic expressions of themselves and their relationships.

For work with children and families, I draw on attachment-based interventions including Theraplay and my training as a Circle of Security Parenting (COSP) Facilitator.
I specialize in the treatment of trauma-related symptoms, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, grief and loss, life transitions, parenting support, and attachment wounds unique to those who have been adopted. Most people have experienced challenges in their life and it is normal to feel stuck, lost, or confused as a result of what we have experienced. People have the resources and inner wisdom to heal and by working together we can integrate those painful experiences so they do not remain in the present causing emotional pain and disturbance.

My therapeutic approach is grounded in a relational approach, incorporating elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Attachment-Based Therapy, and Somatic Experiencing Therapy.
Hello, and welcome! My name is Taylor and I have a passion for supporting individuals through various life challenges. Over the last few years, I have dedicated myself to guiding children, families, and adults through traumatic and challenging experiences, discovering along the way the remarkable resilience and wisdom each person possesses. Life often presents us with obstacles that can hinder our pursuit of fulfilling relationships, careers, or milestones. When we feel these pressures it can be easy to fall into protective habits that may inhibit us from pursuing and achieving our goals.

When we work together it will be about supporting you in moving out of ways of being that no longer serve you in a helpful way and into a more connected, aware and preferred place. Collaboratively working to understand and shift the impacts that traumatic events have had on your life and building on your energy levels so that you can feel a deeper sense of ease, belonging and happiness. Be it parenting support, family therapy or individual youth and or adult sessions, together we can create a space that upholds your dignity and highlights your intrinsic strengths as we navigate changes together towards a more preferred sense of you.

AEDP is an attachment-based, experiential treatment model ideally suited to address and treat relational trauma.
My work is relational, emotion-focused, and experiential. Relational means establishing a unique and real connection with people — i.e. not being a “blank slate” therapist. Emotion-focused means helping people pay attention to old emotional patterns that may no longer be serving them. Experiential means going beyond just talking about patterns. It means offering actual in-session experiences of doing things a different way — working together to form new and preferred patterns that are conducive to one’s therapy goal(s).

Waitlist for new clients
I work alongside clients who feel disconnected from others or themselves, but can't seem to push through the barriers of what it is that they are unsatisfied with; with people who want more out of their relationship with themselves, others, and life. My clients often talk about their emotions as being too big or having conflicting parts within. I focus on finding not only strategies, but understanding and insight into past experiences - enabling to not only manage your experiences but feel deep fulfillment as well. As you understand the early experiences that shaped you, we then have choices over who you want to be moving forward.

Hi! My name is Vanessa and I would be honoured to be apart of your journey. I am a therapist from Vancouver, BC that approaches life and its challenges from a holistic perspective. Understandably, there are many other counsellors available and so, it can be overwhelming to choose who you want to work with. A little bit about me: I have been practicing for 3 years now, and am recently registered. I am trauma informed and use a mix of approaches such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT), attachment theory, just to name a few, and am open to learning more.

I value helping others to develop and enhance skills which will support a good relationship with self and others. We all struggle at times and I know first-hand how impactful compassion and support from a skilled counsellor can be. During difficult times in our lives we need people in our corner who believe in us. It was my personal experience with some very kind and compassionate counsellors that led me to the helping profession.

A large part of the change that takes place due to therapeutic work is the relationship between client and counsellor. I strive to make that relationship a meaningful one based on respect and compassion. I bring with me a wide range of knowledge, skills and education and am happy to continue learning both from and for my clients.

I come to this profession by way of lived experience, having spent decades in deep emotional pain, always feeling I was never “enough.” Consistently engaging in counselling, as well as tools and psycho-education for trauma resolution, has led me to find safety in body I had once disowned. I now have a sense of worthiness and peace that I never imagined possible. Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, self-criticism, relationship issues, or symptoms of trauma, we will co-create a compassionate container for exploration and healing.

Attachment-based Counsellors

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
