I'm a warm and friendly Registered Clinical Counsellor who works with individual clients and couples. I will work with you to find solutions and coping strategies while also helping you to explore, process, and heal from the past.
Traumatic experiences have lasting impacts on the mind and body. As a Registered Social Worker with several years of experience in the field of mental health, I welcome the opportunity to facilitate your healing journey. I draw from a wide range of theoretical approaches to tailor my counselling services to your specific needs and hold specialized post-graduate training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
I want to walk beside you in your mental health journey and take the time to understand the challenges you may be facing from a holistic approach. By incorporating physical grounding tools or mental training techniques I want to support you in finding or rediscovering your passion for life. I work with clients to not only identify their strengths in life but to understand areas that may need extra focus. I am passionate about working with multicultural clients and incorporate cultural supports to find ways of healing. I want to start where you are in your journey and work together to help you thrive in life.
70 years of life experience has been my best teacher (even though I have all the necessary professional training.) I have experienced loss when 2 spouses passed away from disease. I have won my own battles with cancer and addiction. I have raised 4 children, 2 step children (some with special needs) and now enjoy 12 grandchildren. I treat anxiety, depression, low self-esteem and anger by addressing the root of the problem - trauma. I am trained in EMDR, which is useful in healing PTSD (both childhood and adult trauma). Within minutes (not months) the pain of trauma can be permanently erased and people are less triggered in life.

My approach to counselling is very much rooted in the here and now. My goal is to help you get through whatever life difficulties you are facing and help equip you with the skills and insight to handle anything else that may come up in the future. Although our main focus will be helping you with the immediate issues at hand, I find value in looking at past behaviors and incidents to better help you understand how your emotions may be effecting your current situations. Each person is unique, therefore, your sessions will be tailored to best serve you and help you grow in the areas you wish to see improvement in.

I am a registered counsellor of 25 years, with a diverse background in anger management, addictions, domestic violence, emotional trauma, anxiety, and depression. I am passionate about helping individuals process their anger and emotions without the emotional outbursts and rage that can be detrimental to their relationships. I have an extensive background in Psychiatry, Community Mental Health and in private practice. My clients would describe my style as non judgmental, knowledgeable and when necessary directive. I understand how vulnerable and difficult the process of therapy can be, so I ensure I create a relationship based on empathy and safety. We tell ourselves stories about who we are and how we fit into the world around us. Part of my practice is helping people explore their personal narratives and how these storylines influence our sense of identity and emotional wellbeing. Problematic internal self-talk can lead to symptoms of depression, anxiety, stress, identity crises, worry, fear, and more. Applying narrative therapy and mindfulness techniques as a part of my diverse counselling style, I can help you work through and process the distressing symptoms you might be experiencing.
There are many challenges in life that hold us in place, in fear, in hopelessness, in pain. My goal is to effect change by exploring and collaborating with You so you're choices improve the quality of your life. On going support and education in a non judgment environmnent is my first priority. Confronting behaviours, thinking and feelings that may be the root of a life not lived well takes courage. Let me share in that journey. Teamwork divides the burden and doubles best outcomes. I look forward to showing you how I may be of help.
"I'm not fragile; I'm grieving!" I have been walking with grieving people for many years and they have always taught me something new about their journeys. Supporting the bereaved is a passion for me; educating those who work with the bereaved a privilege.
