Thomas S Bateman D.B.A.

Thomas Bateman, D.B.A., lives in Maine and Chicago and is a Bank of America Eminent Scholar at the McIntire School of Commerce, University of Virginia. His field is organizational behavior, with particular expertise in leadership, proactive behavior, and decision-making. An active researcher for almost four decades, his early publications addressed organizational citizenship behavior (OCB), job stress, and work attitudes. His subsequent work empirically introduced and elaborated the nature of proactive behavior in the workplace, and in the past few years, he has applied these interests to the domain of climate change. Current and recently-published papers address public opinion and leadership in the domain of climate change, boundary-crossing in multidisciplinary scientific research, long-term goal pursuit (“Masters of the Long Haul”), and proactive goals and goal pursuit. Bateman coauthors Management: Leading & Collaborating in a Competitive World, a college textbook now in its fifteenth edition and published in several languages. He developed and led a multidisciplinary leadership minor at the University of Virginia, and has taught practicing managers at companies around the world.
