Healing from trauma is not easy. I don't believe sugarcoating how difficult this process may be, is beneficial to anyone. But you don't have to go through it alone. I have been working with survivors of trauma for the last 6 years. I've specialized in working with survivors of sexual assault, rape, domestic violence, intimate partner violence and abuse. I know picking the right therapist for this process may be difficult, so I encourage having a free phone consultation with me, to see if it feels like a good fit! I'm excited that you've begun this process of healing, and look forward to playing a role in your healing journey.

Oftentimes we don't understand how our experiences impact our view of the world and we do our best to cope with the tools we've been given. I aim to help my clients learn new coping skills, both individually and in relationships. I assist clients to uncover and work through big and "seemingly" small traumas.

Life can definitely throw us unexpected challenges. Whether you are suffering with depression, anxiety, trauma, addictions or difficulty adjusting to other life challenges perhaps I can help. I treat my clients as "unique individuals" not as "a diagnosis." My intent is to help you heal so you may "thrive" not just "survive."

A wise artist once said, "The truth is, I need help, but I just can't imagine who I'd be if I was happy." It's common to feel more comfortable in a state of depression, anxiety, or stress when these have been your only companions. What would it be like if you were happy? I am not here to promise a constant state of happiness, but I will promise that I will accompany and support you in your journey toward healing and peace.

Sometimes we take our mistakes or wrongs too literally. We might assume, that we should focus on our mistakes and failures. It is no wonder we expect to be judged and rejected. Using words like “wrong and defects” does not allow us to gain an understanding of our past or our present. Hearing those words or reading them automatically triggers feeling shame or become self-critical. Rather than thinking about right and wrong, I will help you discover your strengths and limitations without judgement or blame. You are more than your mistakes or wrongs.

How often have you said something similar to- "I get it. I know all the therapy words. I know I should be kinder to myself, do better, be better, etc. but in the moment, I can't do it." Too often, we intellectualize our feelings and experiences causing dissonance and separation between ourselves, our reactions, and our values. My work is to create a safe, open, and person-centered environment that allows you to feel, process, assess, implement change, and ultimately heal. I have unique experiences in living seasonally nomadic, navigating perfectionist environments and intense life transitions, and working with diverse populations.

You're surrounded by people, yet no one really knows you. No one understands what it's like to be you, or even what you really think or feel. It's crowded. Yet you're lonely. You wish someone cared enough to offer more than just a shallow "Hey, how are ya" as they walk on without waiting for a response. Worse still, there are people around you who think they can control you. Limiting you and stifling your choices. You're discouraged and you wonder why even bother to try. Yet, you're here. With a sliver of hope, that someone on this site might understand you enough to offer some true help.

Hi there, my name is Candi. One of my favorite quotes about life is by James Baldwin, which says, “Not everything that is faced can be changed but nothing can be changed until it is faced.” Life is too short to let trauma control us, to be anxious, depressed or angry all the time or to struggle alone in relationships. Therapy may not be the most comfortable experience, but it can be life changing. I want you to be able to find meaning and purpose and work through emotional pain so that your self-worth, relationships and other areas of life thrive.

Is your trauma, grief, or loss taking everything from you? Does your health condition seem like it is more than you can bear? Are you lost in a cloud of deep depression and can’t see a way out? Are you scared that you have come to a point in your marriage that you are considering divorce and would do anything to just heal things, be happy again, and make it all better? Or, is your child really struggling and you want to know how to help them? If you are experiencing any of these or other extremely hard feelings, you need to know you can get through this. Things can get better.

I was born and raised in Las Vegas but relocated to Utah with my wife in 2014. I have spent most of my career as a business consultant and enjoy helping others simplify complex issues. After my own struggles, I realized that these skills could easily be transferred to individuals who had challenges in their personal lives. I am drawn to working with others who are overwhelmed by all the demands life places on them.

Cognitive Processing (CPT) Therapists

How does cognitive processing therapy work?

A CPT therapist helps a client evaluate their thoughts about the trauma they experienced, focusing on maladaptive or self-blaming thoughts that can exacerbate symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, or depression. The therapist will work with a client to help them learn to challenge such thoughts and consider different perspectives. The therapist is also likely to ask a client to work on these techniques at home between meetings, such as writing an account of their trauma that can be read aloud during a future session.

What is cognitive processing therapy for PTSD?

Cognitive processing therapy (CPT) is a form of cognitive-behavioral therapy primarily used in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to treat individuals who experienced abuse or violence, who survived natural disasters, who were first responders to such incidents, or who otherwise experienced trauma.

How long does cognitive processing therapy last?

CPT is a short-term therapy. Whether conducted one-on-one or in a group, a complete set of CPT sessions typically includes 12 weekly sessions, along with tasks for clients to complete at home, although this can vary depending on a client’s needs or a therapist’s particular treatment plan. Sessions typically last 60 or 90 minutes.

How effective is cognitive processing therapy?

A large body of research supports the use of CPT to treat people experiencing PTSD, finding it to be effective among different age groups, either in one-on-one therapy sessions or in a group therapy environment. Research suggests that although the initial sessions may be difficult, clients tend to begin to feel positive progress after the first few sessions, and that the benefits tend to last well after the therapy ends.
