Technically, I am a Cognitive Behavioral Therapist (CBT). Relationally, I am an empathetic listener and collaborator. I listen and then collaborate with you to discover the opportunities for progress and growth. I believe immediate change IS possible albeit in small steps. Change brings improvement. Improvement brings more change and the cycle continues. Breaking out of the old dead-end cycle and entering a cycle of growth and change is what I am all about.

Life is hard, but there are strategies and tools we can learn to help us overcome challenges and move towards happiness. The way to start creating a joyful life begins by understanding what the problem is, how our actions may be making the problem worse, and what changes we can make to help. I love helping individuals, couples, and families learn to change unhealthy patterns, build better relationships, and stop engaging in harmful behaviors.

I'm so glad you've found my page. I see myself as someone who can encourage, teach, guide, empower, collaborate, and just "sit" with my clients. I will provide a nonjudgmental space to support you, provide problem solving and practical strategies, offer new perspectives, challenge unhelpful thought patterns, and help you gain clarity and confidence. I have a direct approach to therapy; I aim to be forthcoming in our sessions, yet in a way that is honoring to you. My clients are experts on their own lives and I aim to draw on their expertise to facilitate change.

An ideal client is anyone who is willing to take part in the therapeutic process with an open and honest heart. Not everyone is ready for extreme change, should the circumstances call for it, but there are positives in having somebody with you during each step who is unbiased and ultimately rooting for YOU. I am here to meet you where you are at, and do what I can to support you through life's struggles. I primarily specialize in adolescence and early adulthood, but I am trained to work with younger and older populations as well, so please do not hesitate to reach out and see if I am the right therapist for you!

My therapies of choice are person-centered practices, art therapy, solution-focused, and family systems theory, with elements of both cognitive and dialectical behavioral therapies.

Parenting a young child is challenging, but it is so much more difficult when your child is oppositional, defiant, and/or aggressive. Many parents blame themselves, feel isolated, and are unsure of what to do. You can be the solution, though! Through a unique approach called Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), I coach parents and guardians in developing the necessary tools for promoting a healthy relationship with their children based on mutual love and respect. In return, children feel more secure and are less interested in testing boundaries. PCIT has strong scientific support and is highly effective in person or online!

I am also a certified Parent Child Interaction Therapist, focusing on behavioral modification while strengthening the parent-child relationship.
Are you struggling to connect with your child? Are you repeating "No" "Don't" and "Stop" statements all day long? Challenges with our children can often lead to feelings of shame, embarrassment and frustration; you are not alone. While I wish there was a manual for how to respond to each challenge that arises, I am realistic and transparent in recognizing there is no "one size fits all" approach to parenting. You and your child are the experts of your experiences, and I hope to utilize your strengths and work alongside you as you identify your goals and work to pursue your vision of wellness.

I enjoy what I do and to see clients being empowered to make a difference for themselves in their lives, is my reward. I am bilingual and speak Farsi. Reaching out for help demonstrates inner strength and willingness to face various life challenges. As an immigrant, accessing resources and services that feel inclusive and culturally sensitive is challenging. My journey in healing as an individual, a mother, and a caring community member has sparked a desire to provide culturally sensitive care to people from all walks of life. Although many clients have experienced marginalization due to their background as an immigrant (BIPOC, MENA, AMEMSA), other clients have realized numerous privileges in their life and felt a sense of inclusion and reconciliation within the larger community.

My psychology and counseling practice is the expansion of identities through awareness and compassion not just solving problems. Your journey has been one with twists and turns and taking the first step to contact me may feel uncertain. Given life can feel like a maze, I make our initial contact straightforward as possible. For 25 years I’ve helped people clear the way to the freedom of their true nature in psychotherapy as well as hypnotherapy. I’ve worked as a crisis worker in ERs, to chief auditor for mental health services in Silicon Valley, to developing a successful counseling training center focused on mindfulness

Accepting daytime clients, waitlist for after school hours. Life is full of transitions and can tug at our strings in search for identity and times of uncertainty that can increase anxiety, depression, and trigger previous trauma. Children can feel changes and try to adapt without the words to express how they feel that can create additional tension. Put this together, it can become a cesspool of emotions for both the parent(s) and child. My personal experience of living abroad for 20 years and raising 5 children, helped me to understand transitions and their complexities.I work with both children and adults, parenting for relief.

From struggling to THRIVING. Become more fully "yourself." Enjoy relationship satisfaction. Strengthen connection to something bigger that is meaningful. Get relief from depression and anxiety (really!). Improve effectiveness at work. Feel more at home in your body, content. Mindful and present. LAUGH. Choosing a therapist that is both really good AND a great fit is important. There is a difference here you will experience from the get go. The office is in a 1930's Cape Cod style house...inviting & comfortable. With warmth and character. David is unusually relational and "real." Sessions are 60, 75 or 90 minutes rather than 50.

Raising healthy and happy children with ADHD can be a big job, but the good news is that you do not have to do it alone. There is a lot that can be done to help! ADHD is a complex neurodevelopmental condition that impacts each child differently. ADHD has little to do with how "smart" your child might be, but it has a lot to do with your child's ability to regulate their attention, mood, and behaviors. When symptoms of ADHD lead to lower self-esteem, mental health concerns, behavioral challenges, or academic struggles, it is a good time to seek professional help.

I believe that therapy is a collaborative, sacred space where clients bring themselves and their stories. Using your stories and experiences, our work together will center on your present circumstance as well as your hopes and expectations for the future. As a systems and attachment trained intern, our work together may involve exploring your patterns in relationships, responses to trauma, what you value, social challenges you experience, and/or your strengths and resources. Our therapeutic relationship is of utmost importance to me. Honesty and vulnerability will be a crucial aspect of our therapeutic relationship.

Parent-Child Interaction (PCIT) Therapists

Does parent-child interaction therapy (PCIT) work?

PCIT is an evidence-based treatment that has been shown to be effective across domains, including for children with behavioral problems, those on the autism spectrum, and those who have experienced early childhood trauma. Further, studies have found that the skills developed through PCIT benefit not only the child in therapy but also siblings, as the parent internalizes lessons learned in sessions and is able to incorporate them into interactions with other family members.

How long does PCIT last?

The duration of treatment depends on the specific challenges clients face. Sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes long, and treatment lasts, on average, between 12 and 20 sessions. Factors that influence treatment duration include how regularly a client attends treatment, how much progress is achieved between sessions, the particular skills that need development, and the extent to which the parent and therapist see improvement.

Can PCIT be done online?

PCIT is among the therapy types best suited for video sessions. Therapists are able to communicate with parents with essentially the same ease, and by observing the parent and child at home in their normal environment, the therapist may gain additional insight into their interactions, as the child will have their normal toys and may feel more comfortable and act more naturally than they would in a therapist’s room.

Does PCIT help parents?

In addition to the skills parents develop through the treatment, PCIT has also been shown to reduce frustration, stress, and depression in parents and promote confidence and a sense of calm when dealing with their children. The desired outcomes of PCIT include a reduction in defiant and aggressive behavior by children and an improvement in communicating their feelings productively, complying with parental instruction, and behaving according to parents’ rules. Growth in these areas can be a relief for parents.
