These are stressful, challenging times. Living a human life can be hard. Each of us is likely to encounter problems or dilemmas that leave us feeling depressed, anxious or overwhelmed. We may have been hurt a while ago but still unable to get past it. We may seek relief yet not find resolution. Often we are caught between wanting to get through something, yet enacting ineffective behaviors meant to keep us safe. This is when it can be helpful to have someone help us face what life is asking from us.

I myself struggled with Anxiety and Depression as a young person. I often like to joke that I took my first psychology class as a DIY project. As I discovered what worked for me, I realized that I wanted to share that knowledge with other people. I view therapy as a place to feel safe, express feelings, explore relationships, describe experiences, and (if necessary) revisit old wounds to heal from them. In my practice I am passionate about utilizing Positive Psychology, strength-based approaches and CBT to achieve better mental health.

Therapy has been proven effective for anxiety and depression. Talking about what is troubling you in a safe, supportive atmosphere has the potential to transform almost every mental health problem. In our work together, I will join you in a process of looking at what is happening, and seeing how you got to this difficult place. We will identify new ways of approaching issues in your life, and I will help you to develop more effective tools for dealing with what you are currently experiencing, as well as for getting you to where you want to be. If you are ready to start on path toward psychological freedom, I am ready to help you.

We all go through life struggles, which we are not able to handle on our own. Therapy is a very helpful tool to get the help and guidance that you, your family or typical support network may not be able to provide. My job as a psychotherapist is to work collaboratively with clients to help you heal and grow. My approach is gentle and direct, and while I have confidence in my knowledge about therapy, I treat every client as an individual and learn from every person who works with me. My clients would say they trust my intuition, pay close attention, tell them the truth and empower them with ongoing effective strategies for healing.

You don't need to be alone. Through therapy, I help people who seek connection. I help people identify connections between past and present relationships, their body, and brain. Understanding how these interact and influence one another helps empower people to take control of their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Working with a counselor who understands the anatomy and biology of the brain is critical during therapy. Identifying when and why specialized neural systems are activated helps people gain self-awareness, prepare for action, and implement change.

Accepting new clients 10/2023. As a holistic, trauma-informed clinician, I value my role as an opportunity to help people recognize their strengths, allow themselves to safely be vulnerable & feel hopeful for the future. The therapeutic process can be intimidating, so my approach is to make it collaborative and inviting. I have worked with children, teens and adults in both in-patient and outpatient settings. I've read many books and participated in several trainings, but you are the expert of your own life. If you'd like to see if we would be a good fit, send me a message. I offer evening hours both in-person and virtual sessions.

Individual Counseling and Couples. Have you spent years in 'talk therapy', without seeing much real change? It’s probably time to try something new. Psychologists are learning there is a more successful way to heal. Deeper wounds can't be reached through talk-therapy alone. We must heal in a multidimensional way. It's about taking a gentle, deep look at the sub-conscious imprints in the body, mind, heart and soul levels to find out exactly where the pain lies. You and I will gently pave the way to clear them. Sessions are 65 minutes long, with free text check-ins 24/7. Insurance is accepted!

**ONLINE SCHEDULING, EVENINGS AVAILABLE** Therapy should be about YOU. There is no one-size-fits-all solution in life. Everyone is unique in their own way. People come from all kinds of different circumstances, they see things in different ways, process information, and react to the world differently. I understand this. That is why I enter each counseling session focused solely on the person in front of me. My person-centered approach means I treat the whole of a person based on what works for them as an individual. I offer a judgement free and encouraging environment to discuss the issues you want to tackle.

Looking for more balance, meaning, and/or self-awareness in your life? Many of us already possess the knowledge, strengths, and resources to resolve our own problems; however, a trained and supportive professional can help identify tools and strengths as well as assist with improving coping skills. My role is to provide gentle guidance and encouragement to clients that are struggling or are facing challenges. I work to create a nurturing and safe environment that creates a comfortable place where we can explore issues and any negativity that may be getting in the way of leading a more meaningful and fulfilling life.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Austin?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
