I have practiced privately for nine years, specializing in anxiety, depression, life changes, spiritual issues, grief and loss relationship/couples counseling. I enjoy providing tools for clients that help manage their Anxiety and OCD. I have a particular interest in these areas . My background is in school counseling, I've logged many years with students and parents providing therapy to those across many different age demographics.

I work with a number of different presenting issues including men's issues, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, life changes, couples and those who are struggling with substance use.

Eric Thurmond is a Licensed Professional Counselor and native of Rabun County Georgia. He received his B.A. in Psychology from Piedmont College and his M.S. in Clinical Counseling Psychology from Brenau University. He maintains a physical office in Clayton, GA but offers telehealth services as well. He has practiced as an outpatient therapist for over 12 years and works with child, teen, and adult populations alike. It is his goal to provide the highest quality counseling services from a thought-provoking and informed Christian perspective of hope and healing.

I am an experienced, effective professional treating individuals with a broad range of conditions. Grounded in the belief that people inherently possess the knowledge and ability needed, most need help to break through the emotional defenses that obscure their perspective. I also have substantial experience counseling men, twenty-something's, and troubled adolescent males. Young adults can be challenging and having raised two myself, I understand how difficult it can be! I create a safe, comfortable, & non-judgmental environment for change.

Originally from Bronx, NY, I have worked with a huge demographic.I have worked as a contractor for the Army Reserve as a Youth Services Specialist responsible for Family Programming, Yellow Ribbon Re-Integration Events, Battle Weekends, etc. In addition, to enhance my social services background, I have also served as a Care Ambassador with CDC assisting with Ebola outreach prevention services. I believe in transparency and open communication. I tell all that therapy does not mean that you're crazy as that is the common perception. Deciding to see a Doctoral level therapist is a hard decision to make and it can seem scary. Therefore, it's important for you to know that I am non-judgmental, provide a safe and confidential atmosphere, and am usually pretty good at helping people feel comfortable right away. I am honest and always provide professional and practical opinions in a caring and empathic manner within the scope of my practice. I work with adults of all ages, older adolescents, couples, and families, regardless of background. I also perform all sorts of psychological assessments if one is needed (i.e. diagnostic, court ordered, child custody, etc.).

My family oriented practice is balanced between adolescents and adults. I work with individuals, couples and families. I use a variety of counseling approaches in order to best fit each individual client and their needs. My goal and desire with every client is to do my best to see the world through your eyes and understand your experience in order to best provide the kind of support and encouragement you seek.

In my practice, I have the opportunity to help many clients with a variety of needs. I have worked with people as young as nine and have been fortunate enough to work with couples well into their fifties and individuals in their seventies. My clients have had concerns ranging from learning how to better function in relationships to recovering from trauma. My goal is always to move people to a place where they become equipped to better deal with life's struggles by equipping them with skills needed to face challenges.
