Emotions impact and affect the body causing us to hold them on a physical level. I work with the mind-body connection, utilizing mindfulness techniques, Neurofeedback/EEG Biofeedback, EMDR, breath work, and meditation, viewing the body as a whole to address trauma, depression, anxiety, and life transitions. As a somatic therapist, I combine these techniques to help clients become aware of trauma stored in the body, and work to resolve the trauma and empower the client. I engage the wisdom of the body to heal trauma, depression and anxiety, and move through life transitions by unifying the mind-body connection.

Through various techniques, including, CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness, and a trauma-informed view, clients can learn tools and set goals to shape their lives.
Life can be hard as we are pulled in many different directions and there are constant changes. Plus, navigating relationships, communication, and examining what each of us brings into a situation can be a lot, and confusing. I specialize in working with people who are experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, and life changes. In a safe space, the therapeutic relationship; roadblocks, insecurities, traumas, and challenges can be examined so people can reach their full potential and take steps towards a more fulfilling life. As said by Lao Tzu, "The journey of a thousand miles starts with one step. "

As a mindfulness-based art therapist, I have a lot of experience working with grief, serious illness, spirituality, shifting out of unhealthy patterns, finding balance, anxiety and depression.
The poet Rainer Maria Rilke wisely states, “If we surrendered to earth’s intelligence, we could rise up rooted, like trees.” Art therapy and other mindfulness-based therapies allow you to bypass your defenses and programming to access a deeper knowing. Find guidance to do this brave and healing work. Come discover your natural intelligence and help heal and grow from the trauma and patterns you wish to be free from. If you are feeling stuck or lost, come learn tools to support you in the everyday to emotionally regulate, find deep self-compassion, and express your true self.

I have graciously provided psychotherapy for trauma and addictive disorders for over a decade and continue to love this work. I've led mindfulness-based workshops and group therapies, including comprehensive DBT programming. I currently supervise aspiring clinicians and provide consultation to established professionals. I've gained invaluable experience from the people I've worked with over the years and cultivated a therapeutic approach that balances acceptance and the invitation for change. I hold a compassionate, strength-based perspective that not only builds the therapeutic alliance, but lifts up the meaning behind this work.

My therapeutic approach focuses on the whole person. Specifically, working with female clients. We carry many different identities within ourselves. I want to assist, through a strengths' based approach, on how you can feel better and obtain greater awareness of your thoughts and behaviors, and why we think and act in certain ways. I work in a collaborative manner with clients, on what may work best for their individual healing. My therapeutic approaches include solutions-focused, humanistic, and mindfulness. But I tailor therapy sessions to the individual person, so some therapeutic approaches may be outside of this box.

The primary modalities that I utilize in partnership with my clients are EMDR, somatic, and mindfulness-based interventions.
Often, we embark on the journey of self-exploration and become caught in a mirage of questioning. Aware that previous life experiences have impacted currently presenting challenges, patterning of behavior, and relationships, and yet we continue on to engage in what we thought we learned to be correct. You have begun broadening your awareness and yet, something still seems to be nagging. This is when we are maybe feeling the readiness to uncover roots and shift away from operating out of the past.

I utilize a combination of Mindfulness--Based DBT as well as Attachment and Trauma -Informed Care in my practice.
It isn't easy to begin therapy, to go to a person you don't know and trust that they will understand and can help. My approach is to provide a safe and accepting space; not to judge or presume I know what you need. Together we can try to understand and adjust what may be getting in the way of feeling happier, more confident, and achieving your goals. There may be patterns you've noticed that aren't working well for you; or intense feelings you don't understand; or act in ways that may be harmful to you or others. You may have negative thoughts or chatter in your brain you can't shut off.

As a therapist, I use a combination of techniques and theories that are strength based and draw on interpersonal, humanistic, cognitive behavioral, experiential, and mindfulness.
Grief, loss and transition are an integral part of our lives and we often need help and support in coping and navigating through the feelings associated with these experiences. When we are thrown in the midst of change it can create anxiety and uncertainty. It also can be a lonely time when we question ourselves and the meaning of life. My goal as a therapist is to provide the care, support, guidance, empathy and skills needed to help work through difficult feelings in order to live a life filled with purpose and greater joy.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
