I apply effective mindfulness , somatic, and social justice approaches to support clients to feel skillful as they explore their deepest concerns.
I work with individuals struggling with the effects of unresolved trauma, which can look like experiences of anxiety, depression, and panic attacks, as well as challenges in relationships and sex life. My counseling incorporates a mind/ body approach that is based on an understanding of the neurobiology of trauma and that is highly attuned to cultural and societal context so as to promote more possibilities for healing. My aspiration is to support my clients to feel keenly aware of their sense of empowerment, agency, and wholeness in the present moment rather than feeling defenseless against overwhelming emotions and bodily states.

Mindfulness based practices are used to make lifestyle changes and cause long lasting change.
Do you struggle feeling connected and close to others? Do you struggle with worry or stress? Do you sometimes lose sleep, become unfocused or distracted, or is being present and calm around other people challenging? The work I do with clients centers around learning how to feel calm and connected again. Sometimes, after a period of struggle (like a loss, divorce, or extended work stress), we can forget what it was like to not struggle. To find that calm again, to reclaim who we used to be, can help us move forward.

For a decade, I have trained in mindfulness practices, which allow me to support clients in forming a connection to a sense of well-being and wisdom that is not dependent on external circumstances.
Do you feel unsatisfied in relationships? Not seen, heard, or understood? Have difficulty navigating intimacy and communication? Is your sex life a source of distress? Are you hard on yourself about not being able to do things differently? I believe lasting change requires more than just talk therapy. Many of our wounds are stored in the body and we must speak the language of the nervous system in order to understand and heal them. Our work will address symptoms and stuckness at this level, which has the power to rewire habitual responses that formed around early attachment difficulties or trauma throughout the lifespan.

I also incorporate motivational interviewing and mindfulness techniques regularly into session.
I love working with clients who have experienced trauma and abuse, as well as clients with chronic illnesses. These are intense, unique experiences that can change the way we think, respond, and prepare for day-to-day activities. It can also change the way our body functions on a basic level. My goal is to provide a comfortable environment in which someone is able to explore traumas, create coping skills, and gain confidence in themselves. It is within a safe, comforting environment that people have the potential to create meaningful change in their lives.

My toolbox contains a plethora of experiential mindfulness skills, neuroplasticity, Gestalt Therapy, Sensorimotor Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Authentic Relating, and Relational Leadership.
Ever feel like there is more to this life than the one you've been living? As someone who has felt the gravity and darkness of untapped potential I know what's it's like to be living a life we don't love. The clues are within the depression and/or anxiety - these are our body's brilliantly sane ways of saying "pay attention!" Anyone can have a life that is full of passion, richness, purpose, and they feel joyfully proud to be living. It will take vulnerability, bravery, sacrifices, and perhaps some help to get this life that you love. I'd be deeply honored to be the gentle and firm guide you need to help you create this life.

WELCOME! I ENJOY WORKING WITH INDIVIDUALS who are motivated to learn about themselves and their relationships~to their partner, family, work, creative endeavors and/or physical health. CLIENTS report that they appreciate my humor, compassion and interactive style. TOGETHER, we explore how specific patterns may be at the root of emotional, interpersonal and/or physical challenges. TO BRIDGE THE GAP that often occurs between insight and transformative change, I draw from my background in the MEDICAL FIELD, as well as from NEURO("BRAIN")SCIENCE, MINDFULNESS PRACTICES and current research regarding the intricate RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PHYSICAL AND EMOTIONAL HEALTH.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
