Complex trauma often manifests in chronic pain being held in the body. As a trauma counselor who specializes in working with people who experience Chronic Illness, Fatigue, and Pain, I aim to bring both your mind and body peace. As a former EMT, I witnessed the invalidation and exhaustion that can come from simply trying to “prove” your diagnoses to people who just don’t understand. I believe you. I am in your corner, and will work with you towards reducing medical anxiety, processing diagnoses and loss, and living a full life outside of doctor appointments. If you’re feeling stuck, alone, misunderstood – let’s chat.

**I am currently accepting new clients!** My yearning passion and desire has always been to help others, in every way possible, and the characteristics a genuine counselor should have has always come naturally to me. My main priority is to walk side-by-side with each client as they navigate their way towards wholeness & healing (mind, body & spirit) while emphasizing the importance of growth and finding/implementing healthier ways to cope/positively maintain their mental health and life.

My experience and training in the past 24 years have led me to focus on the areas of Trauma, Anxiety, and Autism. I enjoy working with all ages, from kids to young singles and couples and extending to aging clients. I can work with persons experiencing chronic illness and pain. For families, I can work with adoption issues, blended families, and domestic violence. I love setting up groups with those who will benefit from them. The added appeal from group involvement is the decrease in cost and the additional therapeutic connection this affords.

Although I will see anyone who is brave enough to seek help, my areas of focus are men's issues, stress, anxiety, depression, anger management, grief, loss, LGBTQIA+, and chronic pain.
Before I start, I want you to know that you are not broken beyond repair, you are not too damaged, and you seeking help says more about your strength than anything else. Being on Psychology Today is a massive first step, and even if it is not with me, I genuinely hope you continue to reach out to professionals on here to get the help you deserve. That being said, I offer online sessions for anyone in the state of Texas, as well as in-person sessions in Carrolton. My ideal client is anyone who is willing to be honest, genuine, and vulnerable about the struggles and concerns occurring in their life.

If you're reading this, you are more than likely experiencing some pain and suffering. You may feel lost and hopeless. This pain can become unbearable, especially when we walk through it alone. When we suffer, we often desire the presence of someone not affected by that pain to come alongside us and hear our cries. To sit with us in the emotions and understand us on a deeper level. With my clients, I work hard to be this presence. To form a safe space to feel your emotions, to be heard, and be accepted. Through our therapeutic relationship, we can begin to understand your process and how to best ride the wave of your emotion.

Chronic Pain Therapists
How does chronic pain therapy work?
Engaging with a psychotherapist to help treat chronic pain does not mean that one’s pain is all in their head. Therapy for chronic-pain patients has been shown to benefit both the mind and the body, targeting physical symptoms and increasing daily functioning. In other words, for many, addressing their emotional health through therapy affects their physical health. A therapist can help a client challenge unhelpful thoughts about pain and develop new ways to respond to it, such as distraction or calming breathing techniques. Studies have found that therapy can be as effective as surgery for certain cases of chronic pain and many doctors recommend trying psychotherapy in advance of considering invasive surgery.
What are the most effective treatment options for chronic pain?
Stress, anxiety, depression, catastrophizing, ruminating, lack of activity, and social withdrawal all make chronic pain worse. Addressing these issues, research shows, can help people gain control over their pain symptoms. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, biofeedback, and mindfulness-based stress reduction, along with greater pain-management education, have been found to help people reduce fear and disability.
Are there new treatments for chronic pain?
Many cases of chronic pain, particularly those involving back pain, remain medically unexplained. But there is evidence that changes in the brain or nervous system are caused by previous physical ailments such as tissue damage; in such cases, the brain may continue to send out pain signals despite the physical cause having healed. To aid patients under these circumstances, a recently developed treatment known as pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) is designed to help the brain “unlearn” this response. A PRT practitioner helps individuals to reduce the “threat value” of their ongoing pain signals until they can reappraise them as less threatening and fear-inducing. They also help an individual to develop new emotional regulation skills.
How long does therapy for chronic pain take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from chronic pain, especially as there may be a range of physical and psychological causes for any individual’s discomfort, but most patients should expect to see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions. Studies of pain reprocessing therapy found that many individuals’ experience of pain lessened in eight sessions over four weeks.
