One of the hardest things to admit to ourselves is that we need help. Searching for a therapist is a brave first step. My background is in individual, couples, and group therapy. I am an independently licensed Clinical Social Worker with several years of experience helping clients who struggle with the aftermath of trauma (sexual, physical, emotional, and combat-related), mood disorders, anxiety, interpersonal challenges, psychosis, and end of life transitions.

My approach is a results oriented, active, direct, and homework driven style. Addictions often originate from deeper underlying issues such as trauma/PTSD, chronic pain, psychosis, anxiety, and depression. I want to help you accomplish -whatever- goals/values that are uniquely important to you. I genuinely want to help you put the hard work of therapy into achieving real growth. I am part of the neurodivergent/high functioning autistic community. Please scroll down to read my blubs about the evidenced based treatments I use for these struggles. Self compassion is powerful! Book in person (Tucson area) or zoom at my website.

My areas of expertise are in Behavior Modification, Depression, Anxiety, Psychosis, Risk Assessment, EMDR, Trauma, PTSD and Sexual Paraphilia's.
I'm Wes! As your therapist, it is my goal to see you become a better version of yourself. It is my belief that life's experiences teach things about the world that may no longer be the most helpful or true today; even if they were true at the time in our past. When we don't adapt and remain flexible, we find ourselves in a web of mistaken beliefs, thinking errors and unresolved life problems. As a result, it becomes too hard to find our way and manage life's challenges in the here-and-now.

I work with a variety of clients who experience a variety of concerns related to unhealthy or poor coping skills, life transitions, and finding personal meaning.Whether the concern feels minute or overwhelming, I believe that most concerns can be addressed, reversed, or reduced by changing the way that one thinks about the situation and implementing new strategies of problem solving. If a client is willing to change, and persistent in their efforts towards changing, they can make their goals a reality.

I have specialized training in couples counseling, trauma, and substance use disorders. The ideal couples clients are those that have a desire to gain practical communication skills to enhance their relationship and decrease conflicts. I utilize the Gottman method to help learn skills necessary for this. I have training in multiple trauma therapies which meet each client's need, greatly increasing positive outcomes. When working with those that have substance issues I work with the whole person, not just the use. I believe in a decision making model.

Change is a process and not an event. Whether you interested in establishing a new relationship to substances, addressing relapse, or have been sober for a while and want to work on underlying issues, I welcome you. I believe that most often substance use is a symptom of underlying issues and people turn to unhealthy behaviors to manage. If these issues are not addressed a person will relapse. I specialize in co-occurring disorders including Trauma, Depression, Bi-polar Disorder, and Anxiety. I have over twenty five years of personal and professional experience in addiction recovery.

What’s the most effective treatment for psychosis?

The most effective treatment for psychosis is coordinated specialty care. In this model, a team of professionals works with a patient to address all aspects of the underlying disorder. This approach incorporates individual or group therapy, employment and education support, family support and education, medication management (which often involves low doses of antipsychotics), and case management to facilitate problem-solving as needed.

When should people seek treatment for psychosis?

People should seek immediate treatment at the earliest indication of psychosis. Symptoms include delusions, hallucinations, disorganized or blocked speech, and agitated body movements. Early signs that a person may be developing a disorder that will lead to psychosis include suspiciousness of others, memory problems and distractibility, an inability to think clearly, rapid or nonsensical speech, withdrawal from friends or family, aggression toward others, and sensitivity to bright lights or noises.

What if psychosis is left untreated?

Without treatment, psychosis can have significant repercussions, including injuries, job loss, homelessness, financial or legal trouble, ruptured relationships, and suffering for the person and their family. While early treatment for psychosis often yields the best results, there is no point past which it becomes useless to seek treatment. At any point, treatment can make a difference.

How do I get someone else to seek treatment for psychosis?

It’s extremely difficult to watch a loved one suffer from hallucinations, delusions, and other elements of psychosis—sometimes exacerbated by their fears of treatment. Have a conversation with them in a quiet space and maintain a calm, supportive tone. Share your concerns about behaviors you’ve observed, suggest treatment, and explain the potential benefits. Listen carefully to their responses. The person may not be ready after one conversation, but with time, they may come around.
