I am a licensed clinical psychologist and certified school psychologist . I have over 30 years of experience across a variety of settings including outpatient clinics, psychiatric hospitals, residential treatment for children and adolescents and group homes for adjudicated youth. Years ago I was also a teacher and special education director. I spent the last 17 years working in community mental health with children, adolescents and adults and also with adults in the prison system. In November 2015 I opened Palo Santo Psychotherapy and Wellness and realized my dream of working in a wellness setting with like-minded clinicians.

I will be out of office until April 10, 2023. Are you interested in personal growth? Do experiences from the past cause you pain today? Do you suffer from anxiety, substance abuse, or depression? Do you feel unseen, unheard, or unmotivated? In therapy, we can navigate difficult emotions, learn to recognize unhelpful patterns, gain new skills, and improve symptom management, among other things. I also believe there is a connection between our thoughts, feelings, and bodies; and, I find the mind-body connection helpful to explore.

I have a unique background and heart to support emergency responders because I am an EMT and retired law enforcement officer. I have been a licensed therapist in Arizona since 2007. I believe first responders are very strong and resilient people, but sometimes they need support by a licensed professional who understands their jobs and work culture. I can help them build resilience, learn additional coping tools to get better outcomes at work and at home, and I can provide a safe and understanding environment to "off-load" and process some of the intrusive effects of trauma they've experienced.

You are on the right track: seeking out assistants, allies. Kind of depressed? Anxious? Troubles in your relationship? Feeling alienated or a loss of direction? There are lots of ways to describe it, and initially that's all I'll ask you to do. You'll have the freedom of a confidential discussion and a trained professional to help illuminate issues, set goals, and pursue your concerns. You may want insight into your situation. You may want tools. You certainly want results, and to develop some capacities that you haven't seen for a while. That works for me. And I offer clinical supervision to other therapists as well.

Does your child have big emotions, anger, worries, or behaviors that you are struggling to understand? Has your child been through something difficult or just isn’t acting like themselves? If your child is expressing symptoms of anxiety, depression, or unexplained difficulties, a play-based model allows a safe environment to explore their feelings and needs affecting healthy functioning. I specialize in using a genuine, non-judgmental, supportive approach to helping children and families develop new ways of thinking and feeling, as well as learning new sets of skills for making choices and having healthier relationships.

Trauma, transitions and major life events impact all of our lives. The meaning we give to those events often alter our view of ourselves, other people and the world. Using CBT, CPT and "logo therapy" clients explore their beliefs and behaviors that resulted from those events and what can be done to change them.

Seeking help to deal with issues in your life takes lots of courage. I respect that greatly. Often the first step of committing to counseling is the biggest hurdle. Whether it's relationship problems, coping with loss or transitions, anxiety, depression, self esteem concerns, there are times when professional assistance can really help. Sometimes counseling goals are accomplished quickly and other times there is a need for longer term and deeper work. I have the training and expertise to do both.

I have years of experience working with addictions, depression, and teen issues. I am passionate about recovery and helping those in need find their own recovery. I work to help individuals let go of the old messages that are mean and belittling to themselves, and help replace them with compassion and kindness. Because, it's when we feel good about ourselves that we are able to treat ourselves well. Battling mental health issues is hard and having someone you feel safe with to explore the deep, dark parts of your soul is where the healing begins.

In order for the counseling process to be effective, each participant must trust the therapeutic experience and more importantly, the relationship that is developing between the counselor and the client. The goals of therapy must be meaningful and realistic to the client. I have an ethical, moral, and professional responsibility to every client to choose treatment methods that will facilitate an atmosphere of respect, safety, and acceptance for the purpose of self-exploration. Existential therapists help clients find meaning in their lives by focusing on free will, self-determination, and responsibility.

Life is full of surprises. Some are beautiful and we welcome them with open arms; while others are extremely difficult. Those situations or circumstances change our life in a way that leaves us desolate and sometimes, without knowing what to do. The good news is that you don't have to navigate your problems or situations alone. If you allow me, I will walk along by your side, and together we will cross the dark and difficult paths towards a new beginning. I offer you a professional atmosphere in which you will be treated with dignity and without prejudice.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
