If you feel overwhelmed by life, (i.e. the state of the world, your relationships, school, job, church) , you are not alone. It is difficult to be a human in this world. Whether you are going through a faith transition or arguing with your partner over the same issues over and over with no resolution, I can help. Together we can define what a new faith or way of being is or what kind of a relationship you desire and make goals together to make it happen. I enjoy helping others define and live according to their own individual values/ faith. I can assist you in re-igniting the intimacy and connection in your partnership.

Throughout my life, I have searched for the kindness and understanding of others. I have lived through hardship and trauma, which have shaped me into the individual I have become. I know the value of suffering and the importance of being seen, heard, and understood by others, even a stranger. To be human is to long for meaning and worth. At times it seems impossible to find it within ourselves without the outreached hand of others who see beyond our appearance and behavior. My passion is people and the amazing ability of the mind, body, and soul. My desire is to help others discover and thrive in their own health and happiness.

I founded Alpine Psychotherapy and Consulting with the belief that anyone seeking help deserves to receive expert mental health services in a compassionate, caring, personable, and professional atmosphere. You deserve to have a professional who operates from a solid theoretical base and has expertise in the methods they are using. If you are looking for someone who doesn't just have you "come in and talk about your feelings", but rather takes a targeted and research-proven approach to healing, give me a call or email me.

I don't know how to stop hurting. I don't know how to help him. I don't know how to get anything to change. Whether it is a problem you are experiencing with yourself, your child or another loved one many people have these thoughts. When the thoughts become overwhelming and impact your quality of life, it is time to change. Anais Nin wrote, "And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom."

Functional Therapy is a wrap-around, holistic method including analysis of one's sleep, exercise, dietary, recreating and stress-juggling patterns. A tuned-up body/brain can significantly facilitate cognitive/emotive progress. A kaizen approach to change allows real-world, practical strategies for growth in a short time-frame. Some issues may take longer, yet with a brief, solution-focused approach many clients reach their goals within a few meetings. My approach is down-to-earth, unorthodox, humorous when needed and with gentle, yet straight-forward feedback building on strengths and resiliency you already possess.

Our hearts long for authentic connection to ourselves and others - and the sense of aliveness that results from being truly ourselves as we relate. Sometimes, however, reactive patterns arise and displace our competent adult functioning with unregulated emotional states such as anxiety, anger, insecurity, or depression. Often there is no context or overt memory associated with such experiences, which are thought to have their roots in insufficient neural organization. Our neural organization, as it turns out, can adapt and change, giving us access to more and more emotional freedom and contentment.

I offer services via telehealth, and have found success with my clients in utilizing EMDR and an IFS approach to work through traumas. I also work with “late-in-life” diagnoses of Autism. As an individual who masked her autistic traits until age 30, I have a passion for helping people understand themselves and how their brain works, and accepting the whole self. Let me guess, you've been in therapy for years and nothing has helped much? You are not alone. Mental health treatment has failed clients who suffer from complex developmental trauma. This is the trauma that happened as a child and there was no escaping the day to day nightmare of not being kept safe. These clients do not benefit from traditional cognitive-behavioral treatment approaches and talk therapy. They likely have high levels of dissociation and a chronic sense of disconnection from themself and others. They have had to turn on themselves in order to survive the unimaginable. It is time to return home to yourself.

The healing process of therapy can reduce suffering & facilitate further discovery of one's authentic self. Developing self-awareness, digging to the roots of personal problems, making lasting & powerful changes, and finding meaning & richness in your life is a sacred and empowering process that I am so honoured to be a part of. The approach I use is effective for depression, anxiety, issues of trauma and abuse, relationship concerns, and connection with yourself and others.

Let’s face it… IT’S HARD TO BE A MAN. We live in a time when many men are unlikely to ask for help, refusing to acknowledge past wounds that stand in the way of their deepest potential. I have worked extensively with men’s issues and male adolescents suffering the effects of limiting beliefs, life struggles, depression, anxiety, sex addiction and sexual trauma. Helping men of all ages overcome the blocks that keep them disconnected from themselves or their partners; whether it is being stuck in a frustrating cycle of repeating the same mistakes over and over to struggling with infidelity, porn addiction or sexual trauma.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in 84106?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
