Greetings! Thanks for looking at this and, hopefully, reaching out. I've been doing this for 30+ years and have had the opportunity to work with all types of people, in all types of settings, who seek a life worth living. We know what want - good, stable mood - meaningful relationships - deep, and rewarding, interactions with life and all that comes with it - to feel like what we do matters - motivation to be more than we are - contribute to society - pursue our passions - heal our shame - live an examined life. It's not an unreasonable ask. We are innately born with the evolutionary drive to adapt, grow and thrive - our birthright.

I treat worry and overthinking in adolescents with depression and anxiety. We use rumination focused cognitive behavioral therapy for individuals aged 12-17. Rumination is a tendency to get stuck in thoughts inside your head (e.g., worry, overthinking), typically sad or negative thoughts. Rumination is a risk factor for depression and anxiety. We are currently conducting a randomized clinical trial of rumination focused CBT for teens with a history of depression. Eligible teens and their family member are compensated, receive free therapy (either RF-CBT or Relaxation). Clinical trial NCT03859297.

As humans, we all experience seasons in our lives. Often times we can see and name the things that are difficult: big life transitions, relationship challenges, or significant loss. Other times, it's harder to put a finger on what is "wrong," but things just feel harder or heavier than they have in the past. Sometimes we've been carrying an emotional or psychological load and we need help disentangling it from our identity in order to set it down.

When you're looking for help, it can be hard to decide who to go to. You want someone who will understand; who will not judge or lecture you or label...someone who will focus on the core of the concern and have you feeling and performing better in the least amount of time. Much of what happens in successful counseling is a product of the relationship between therapist and client, so choosing your therapist is an important and difficult decision.

Kristen believes that play is the most important work that a child can engage in. Providing a safe space for children to engage in that play is work that she is passionate about. Kristen also works with young people who have disabilities in feeling seen as valuable people rather than for their disabilities, in assisting parents to learn how to advocate for their child, and in teaching children how to advocate for themselves.

I work with individuals and couples who desire to move beyond their past, create the love they know is possible, or overcome anxiety and depression. You have the capacity for true happiness. You can have an incredible relationship. It is time to work through self doubt, a major life transition, or a growing apart. Why work with me? Because you need a therapist that wants to understand you. You don't want judgement, you want direction. You deserve to feel comfortable and unafraid to embrace who you are right now, with confidence that a happier life is waiting for you.

As someone who has lived with the symptoms of anxiety and depression for years, I know how difficult life can be when these things weigh you down. Fortunately, this doesn't have to be so. I am experienced in applying therapeutic skills that I personally know to be powerful in alleviating suffering and improving lives. While my therapeutic background is in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), I am experienced in working within an eclectic therapeutic framework, and I call on various methods as necessary. I enjoy working with both teens and adults, and I also work well with LGBTQ+ clients.

How are you going to live this one precious life? I work best with clients who value deep self-exploration, and who want to cultivate intimacy with themselves, with others, and with life. Rather than solving problems from your thinking mind, I will help you access your embodied (i.e., thinking, feeling, sensing, spiritual) intelligence so that you can make conscious choices that express your fullest, authentic self. I believe our most challenging areas of darkness are potential portals for contacting what is most real within our self. I specialize in depression, anxiety, relational problems, existential and spiritual issues.

In response to covid-19, I am now accepting new clients either via video or phone session. Insurance will still cover these types of visits! I am committed to helping you build confidence and hope through developing credible plans and an understanding of your strengths and struggles. For many people, seeking counseling can be uncomfortable because it requires looking deeply at one's life, or because of uncertainties about counseling's effectiveness. In addition to relying on evidence informed practices, we are consumer centered and will partner with you to help find solutions!

We are becoming more aware how psychological pain increases when we haven't developed a strong sense of self. Such distress, presenting in forms such as depression and anxiety, can keep us from profound and beautiful connection. Healthy relationships we have with ourselves and others are essential for our emotional well-being. So first, live a life that reflects who you are, even if others don't quite understand. Trying to conform to what others want has never been possible. In the Power of Awareness, Neville wrote, "The awareness of 'being' remains regardless of the degree of forgetfulness of who, where and what I am."

How can I find a therapist in 84108?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
