These clients may struggle with communication, parenting, stress management, and emotional discomfort from past trauma. Their needs may include communication support in navigating the complex emotional aspects of divorce, conflict, parenting, stress management, and emotional healing. Fear is the emotion underlying most problems in our lives. We are often the biggest hurdle to reaching our potential. Whether it's fear of success, or performance, stage fright, or fear of becoming more engaged in life and with others, it all connects back to our own beliefs limiting our potential. What we believe about ourselves dictates how successful we are or aren't. Wanting it to be different usually isn't enough. Liberating ourselves from our self-created shackles is the answer, and changing neurocognitive pathways is the key. Life can be very different once this happens.

Whether this is the first time you're embarking on your therapy journey, or you're revisiting the search for a therapist who truly sees and understands you, this process can be so overwhelming. But you're taking this leap into therapy for a reason. Maybe you're feeling disconnected with yourself or those around you and you're ready to reimagine what your life could look like. Maybe you're ready to take the courageous step to begin healing from past emotional wounds that have been keeping you from living in the present. Maybe the weight of the world and its systemic injustices feels inescapable.

I am a white, ciswoman, eager to work with adults interested in integrating Somatic Experiencing work into psychotherapy, a body based trauma therapy. If you recognize that your personal struggles are connected to the pervasive impact of the social, political, structural and power dynamics in which we live, working on that connection can be powerful. Embodied psychotherapy can be helful if you are feeling stuck and flat, or anxious and feel like you can't turn off, or if you flip back and forth between anxious and despairing. I hope to support your natural resilience so you can move through the stressors of life with more ease.

I strive to listen carefully, see people fully, and create welcoming, inclusive spaces and relationships that support healing and wellness. I view a warm and empathic therapeutic relationship as a primary agent of change. I believe that people’s strengths and struggles reflect their identities and the relationships, communities, and systems they are nested in and impacted by. I see therapy as one way to facilitate or rekindle a client’s natural ability to thrive, heal, and have a more connected, empowered, fulfilling life.

Finding the right therapist is important. You want someone you can feel comfortable with, who understands your life experiences and really "gets" you. Research demonstrates that it's the quality of this relationship, more than any other factor, that makes therapy successful. To see if I might be the right therapist for you, you can read more about my approach and what it might be like to work with me at www.wittenbergconsult.com. That will help you decide if we might be a good fit.

Someone who would best fit my practice is someone who is motivated to create change in their life, even if they aren't sure how to do that yet. Someone who is seeking help with improving their mental health, working toward a personal or professional goal, coping with stressors of daily life, and/or wanting a space to be seen and heard would do well in my practice.

*Please note: I am not taking new clients at this time. Worried? Anxious? Maybe I can help. My speciality is helping people get to know and understand themselves in a way that helps manage anxiety, uncertainty, avoidance, and the pursuit of perfection. I work from a person-centered cognitive behavioral perspective, meaning we work together to change anxious thoughts and the behavior those thoughts can trigger.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
