Gulf Wind Counseling was founded with a vision of providing high-quality psychotherapy to children, adolescents and adults regardless of socio-economic background. We develop treatment strategies based on the specific needs of clients using evidence-based therapy modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectic Behavioral Therapy, Structural Family Therapy and Internal Family Systems Therapy. Typical challenges we can help with include depression, anxiety, anger, opposition, defiance, family conflict, couples conflict, school refusal, blended families, manic behavior, grief, trauma and substance misuse.

Accepting new clients. We all want to be understood but people who actually listen to us are rare. Many things in the world recently have increased our stress, causing conflicts and straining our relationships. Sometimes we all need a trustworthy, confidential person to talk to who will listen and understand us. For 20+ years, I've provided a safe space for people to talk about their anxiety, fears, and relationships. I listen attentively & without judgement. I work with you to find a way forward in your life. I welcome all people regardless of age, gender, race, sexual preference, gender identity, faith, or ability to pay.

As Forrest Gump's mother once said, "You've gotta put the past behind you before you can move on." While this idea sounds somewhat simple, putting the past behind us; especially a traumatic one, can be easier said than done. In my work with individuals, I embrace a philosophy that helps people explore their past experiences in order to better understand their present day ones. Additionally, because I believe God to be the source of all things; healing and hope included, I will utilize a faith-based approach in session if desired by prospective clients.

Historically Black women have been the rock of the family, sometimes with devastating results. Chronic stress and unresolved trauma can cause physical symptoms like high blood pressure and emotional struggles with depression, self-worth, and boundaries. Add to that the cultural expectation that we should stay in a child's place and not air our dirty laundry, and it's a heavy burden to bear.

Reaching out for help can feel intimidating. You may find yourself struggling to the point of being overwhelmed. You may feel unsatisfied with your relationships, dealing with depression or anxiety, or processing loss or trauma. You may be pregnant or postpartum and feel the need to address some of these issues that you have not tended to yet. Embarking on the path of therapy is a courageous step towards personal growth and well-being and know that you are not alone. I am a licensed mental health counselor committed to serving teens and young adults in Florida who are struggling with anxiety and related concerns. I use an evidence-based approach, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), proven to be the most effective form of therapy for adolescent anxiety. Prior to joining Lumate, I provided counseling in private practice, community-based settings, schools, and residential facilities. I've also provided supervision for clinicians starting their careers in mental health. Before moving to Florida, I was a clinical director at a community-based organization serving children, teens and families.

At Talk Lift Heal, my goal is to give you a safe space to process feelings while also offering somatic approaches and techniques. Therapeutic and somatic movement can look different for everyone, my specialty is within strength training and weightlifting. You deserve to feel connected to your body, release stored emotions/body tension, and to feel strong again!

My specialty is working with adults and teens with emotional dysregulation, self-harming behaviors and difficulty with impulsive, destructive and self-destructive behavior. I also treat trauma both in adolescents and in adults. I offer fully adherent DBT. Adherent Dialectical Behavior Therapy has the most evidence showing it to be an effective treatment for suicidal people and people with Borderline Personality Disorder and BPD traits. At this current time we are the only practice in the Tallahassee area offering full protocol, adherent DBT which means you get the treatment that works best to help you or your teen stop suffering.
