Hi, I’m Andrew and I’m a musician turned trainee therapist; in my journey of swerving into this career path I’ve noticed how the art of deep listening has been a powerful crossover between the two. I still teach and play, and my method is to bring this enthusiasm, creativity and inspiration into my psychotherapy practice; I understand and respect the importance of trust and compassion in the bonds I form with both my clients and students. From my own history I believe that psychotherapy can be a challenging yet also a very exhilarating experience; the art of learning to live fully and inhabiting one’s potential.

Counselling for men who don't want counselling ... Many men see therapy as a waste of time and money, a one-sided converastion, solely focused on feelings, with little opportunity for you to fix things yourself. You want to go it alone. The very notion of discussing your private life with a stranger makes you recoil. You really want to be okay. You really want to just have your life together. But you cant' seem to stop being moody, angry, agressive, jealous and, sometimes even, suicidal. You may be drinking too much, using drugs or gambling too much. Deep down, you're suffering and so are the people around you.

LIFE IS HARD. If logical thinking could solve the confusion and distress that comes with it then I certainly wouldn’t be typing this now and you wouldn't be reading it- emotions can sometimes inexplicably take over and leave us feeling at a loss as to what to do or how to help ourselves. If you would like to understand this better and overcome these difficulties then the integrated range of therapy approaches I offer can help. Understanding and then breaking unhelpful cycles which impact how you think, feel and behave and processing difficult experiences from the past which crop up in the present are essential for your well-being.

Counselling and psychotherapy is about you: your concerns, and your wellbeing. We can talk about me, and what clients say about me later. But for now, let's establish how you can benefit from professional support...... Does any of this sound like you? "I want to reduce stress" "I feel anxious all the time" "I wish I was more confident and less critical about myself " "I want to feel optimistic instead of negative all the time" ...Or perhaps you want some direction in life, become more productive or improve your relationships?

CBT is an ideal treatment for clients who are looking to change, whether that be to make some changes in the way in which they think about things, or some changes in the way in which they go about day to day life. Some of this change may involve learning new skills, for example, assertiveness. In addition to helping clients feel confident and autonomous throughout treatment, CBT can also help clients come to an understanding of 'why', E.G. what is it about you, your experiences and vulnerabilities which perhaps help explain why you struggle with X (E.G. Anxiety). This is often validating and helpful rather than self blaming.

Hey, I’m Addam. Finding support at a difficult time can be challenging, so I’m glad you’re here. Whatever your reasons for seeking out counselling, I am here to listen, aim to understand and to work collaboratively with you to create a space where you can process and explore what you need to at your own pace. I have experience working with anxiety, identity, racialised trauma, migrant trauma, self-esteem, shame and suicidal ideation, and a wide range of issues connected to gender, sexuality and relationship diversity. Whilst these may or may not be the focus of our work together, the space is there for these aspects if you need it.

You may be considering therapy in the hope of something better. Life might be feeling like a real struggle now or maybe has for a while. There may be difficult feelings like anxiety, a lack of interest in things coupled with challenges in your intimate relationships or at work. You may have a very specific issue that you would like to explore, or a general sense of ill-being and things not feeling quite right. Whatever is bringing you here is both unique to you and your story, and very human. Therapy can offer a place where those painful feelings and thoughts are not only welcome, but seen as offering a catalyst for change.

"I am fascinated about Humans' ability to heal their emotional wounds when they feel supported and accompanied on their personal life path. We all have greater potential and resources than we think. A lot of the times it is difficult to access these for various reasons. Therapy can help with explore our ways and difficulties to relate to ourselves and others. It facilitates the journey towards finding / becoming yourself".

I'm an integrative counsellor, which means that I don't believe there is a one size fits all approach when it comes to therapy. So whether you want to express your self through the arts or prefer a more structured approach I will tailor therapy according to your needs My main specialisms though are in working with children & young people, LGBTQ+ and survivors of trauma and abuse. I have years of experience working with both women, children and young people, having worked for respected charities like Women's Aid National Office, The NSPCC, Kinergy and Off The Record, Bristol.

Starting counselling can be daunting, but living with unresolved problems can be even more distressing. I believe that conditions such as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and addictive behaviour signal that something is preventing us from thriving. Recognising something in your life that you want to change is the most crucial step. I offer sessions online and also face-to-face in both Bristol & London.
