If you're feeling depressed, or need to address a difficult issue in your life, I can deliver a bespoke programme of therapeutic counselling. This will afford you opportunities to challenge yourself and develop fresh outlooks and perspectives for the benefit of finding new meaning and direction in your life. My counselling style is primarily 'person-centred'. This means I can offer sensitive flexibility for young people and adults who feel they'd benefit from a less structured and more exploratory alternative to the the CBT programmes typically offered by schools, employers and the NHS.

Hi, I’m Maddy. I'm a clinical psychologist with over ten years’ experience working in mental health services in the NHS. I am trained in CAT (Cognitive Analytic Therapy), EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) and DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy). I specialise in working with people who have experienced difficulties or trauma in their past which continue to affect them now. These kinds of experiences can lead to flashbacks, intense and overwhelming feelings, or feeling numb and disconnected. Experiences like these can also affect our relationships with ourselves and others.

I have worked for many years helping my clients to accept themselves for who they are and how they survive in the hidden world that goes on inside their heads, the world where fear holds them back and keeps them stuck. The world we are all familiar with, the place we go when we put our heads on our pillows at night and we know! I believe that through honest exploration, reflection and acceptance of our past, we can start to accept ourselves and begin to build our self-esteem, self respect, our confidence and compassion for ourselves. We can embrace the parts of us that work and let go of the parts that don't, we can change.

Are you looking for a safe space to explore what’s happened or happening in your life? Perhaps you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected. You might be carrying the weight of past experiences, navigating big transitions, feeling burdened by the sociopolitical climate, or questioning your sense of belonging and purpose. You want understanding, awareness, and a way forward—but it feels hard to find, and you don’t have to do this alone.

Taking the first steps towards finding a therapy space that feels safe and helpful can feel overwhelming. I aim to provide a supportive and compassionate environment to help clients to understand difficulties and experiences, and to work on what is important and uniquely meaningful to them as an individual. I integrate evidence based psychological approaches but will always start with helping to build awareness of your strengths, values and goals, and developing compassion towards yourself and your experiences. Whatever brings you to therapy at this time, I hope to help you with the confidence to take steps forwards.

So often in our lives we reach a place where we are struggling in some capacity or another. It may be a deep-rooted issue that goes back to childhood, a past relationship or a trauma. It may be some destructive behaviour such as a form of self-harm or an eating disorder. It may be a negative thought process that is having an impact on our daily life. Whatever the issue, I believe counselling can help. Having a place where we can allow ourselves time and a calm space to think, talk and work things out can be absolutely priceless.

In our work together, we will go at your pace and I’ll support you in connecting more deeply with your thoughts, feelings, body and unconscious processes. We may look at relationships, with those around you and with yourself. Explore the different parts that exist within you and assimilate them. Spend time identifying any blocks that might be getting in the way of you doing what you want. Notice bodily sensations and explore what your body may be communicating. Revisit past experiences to process and be held. Identify patterns, why they exist and where they come from.

Hello! Thank you for taking the time to read my profile - I hope I can be helpful to you. My name is Eleanor, I'm a UKCP Psychotherapist in training, offering psychotherapy in Bristol. I have been working with adults in a therapeutic capacity since 2011 & in that time discovered the power of transpersonal, embodied work. For me, psychotherapy is about working with the mind, body & spirit, (whatever this might mean to you). My approach draws on western psychodynamic & Buddhist understandings of the mind. Before training as a psychotherapist I worked as a singer & conductor - creativity & imagination are important to my work.

I offer psychodynamic psychotherapy and counselling for adults with emotional and relationship difficulties. I have extensive experience of working in the NHS and voluntary sector, and now in private practice. Psychodynamic psychotherapy involves listening to what is going on underneath the surface, in order to understand emotional pain and problematic patterns. It can be an effective treatment approach for a range of problems, including depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship or sexual difficulties, eating problems, emotional constriction, fear of intimacy, or feelings of being stuck or held back.

Do you feel like: your mind is constantly racing with anxious thoughts, do you replay conversations, and feel like you just can't relax? Or perhaps you feel exhausted, disconnected and like you're just trying to keep it all together. If this sounds familiar you're not alone. Many people come to sessions feeling this way. Sessions with me are rooted in compassion, curiosity and are a collaboration. I will work with you towards the change you'd like to see. The combination of talking therapy and art therapy, for which no experience of art-making is necessary, can support you in creating lasting change.

Experiencing difficult emotions in face of life challenges or crisis are often considered as “problems” that make us feel vulnerable, powerless or shameful. Although these "problems" are often natural human experiences, we sometimes struggle with the critical inner voice and have little compassion towards self. Psychotherapy is neither a quick fix of your psychological wounds nor a direct path to happiness. It's a process where you can start connecting with yourself and make sense of your own narrative in a safe and respectful space. The process of relating to a genuine human being itself could be the start of your healing journey.

Searching for the right counsellor can feel daunting. How do you know which one to choose, and who you will be comfortable with? It's a big decision. Let me tell you a little about me and the way I work. I am a dedicated and compassionate psychodynamic counsellor, a member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC). I believe that our past experiences shape who we are today and that by uncovering and understanding unconscious behaviours and choices, we can gain insight and self-awareness, and light the way for future growth.

I am a proud ally counsellor offering support to LGBTQ+ community. I believe being a part of queer community sets you free to be yourself and connect authentically, but in a world that's asking you to fit in a made up frame you can be left feeling misunderstood, unseen and rejected with no one to turn to for support. Perhaps you are looking for someone to truly see and hear you, someone who understands how being queer can intersect with race, ability, financial situation and other aspects of life. Perhaps you are looking for ways to reconnect with yourself and others in a way that feels authentic to you.
