Sometimes difficulties can have a major impact on our well-being, relationships or work. Maybe friends and family can offer some support but we may also choose to see a qualified and experienced practitioner, who can provide a safe space in which to work with whatever is going on for us. I have a wide range of experience, including working in the NHS, at university as Associate Lecturer (14 years) and in a GP practice as a Lead Therapist and Supervisor, delivering Relational Integrative Therapy. I draw on Psychodynamic and Person-Centred approaches, relational CBT and CFT (Compassion-Focussed Therapy).

Do you worry that you're a failure or not good enough? Do you feel low or anxious? These painful thoughts and feelings may show up from time to time, but perhaps you've noticed a significant impact on your relationships and work and you feel stuck, prevented from living fully? I understand that it can be overwhelming to speak to a professional about how you’re feeling. As an HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist, I support clients who may be struggling with anxiety, low mood, stress, burnout, loss/life transitions and 'imposter syndrome'. My approach is warm, non-judgemental and compassionate.

Counselling can help us get through tremendously difficult times in our lives but also create longer term change by deepening our self - awareness, bring insight into certain behaviours and building our resilience. I use some CBT tools, Transactional Analysis and I find thinking about our systems and the people/ society around us to be very useful. Depending on you I may suggest some creative tools,

My counselling services are designed to help you overcome personal challenges and achieve your goals. I provide a supportive and non-judgmental environment where you can explore your thoughts and feelings, gain insights into your behaviour, and develop strategies for positive change. My primary way of working is person centred which means the sessions are lead by you and you decide what you want to bring. I use other models such as psycho-dynamic, which focus on your past and family dynamics. I also use the solution focussed model which is outcome based.

I facilitate space that allows co-created sessions, that suit the individual needs of those that I work with. There is no pressure to make art within the sessions but there is always a selection of art materials such as clay, painting, drawing and collage materials, alongside other creative tools to aid exploration of your inner world. Through the therapy, my clients are able to build a stronger sense of who they are and of the patterns that have formed in their lives and too consequently, begin to make the changes in their life and in their relationships that they desire.

Your counselling journey will be a unique reflection of you and your needs. Counselling lends itself both to short-term work, for example, to help you identify current challenges and action changes and longer term work, if you wish perhaps to gain a better understanding of established behaviour patterns or how your childhood, relationships or past development can continue to impact you. Non judgemental support, connection and the ability to be truly heard can increasingly be missing in our lives and counselling can provide this. You may already know what brings you to counselling or you may discover this on your journey.

Counselling and psychotherapy is about you: your concerns, and your wellbeing. We can talk about me, and what clients say about me later. But for now, let's establish how you can benefit from professional support...... Does any of this sound like you? "I want to reduce stress" "I feel anxious all the time" "I wish I was more confident and less critical about myself " "I want to feel optimistic instead of negative all the time" ...Or perhaps you want some direction in life, become more productive or improve your relationships?

People will come to therapy at different points in their life for different reasons. For some people, difficult emotions, distress or a stuck feeling may have developed over a period of time; for others a significant life experience may prompt the need for therapeutic support. Whatever your specific circumstances are, recognising the need for support is a positive step forward. I offer a gentle, empathetic approach, creating a safe place in which to explore the areas my clients wish to focus on.

I’m a down to earth, warm and compassionate therapist with over 20 years of working in mental health in NHS settings. I know life can feel chaotic and overwhelming at times - therapy with me can help bring a bit of calm amidst the chaos of life. I am fully accredited with the BABCP, as well as remaining a registered social worker, and am experienced in helping people manage anxiety disorders and low mood. I am trained primarily in CBT but also draw on Compassion Focussed Therapy and ACT. I have a particular interest in treating OCD, especially when previous therapy has felt unhelpful so do get in touch to discuss if this resonates.

Psychotherapy deals with current problems. You may come because of a particular relationship issue or you may not be sure exactly what the problem is but find yourself repeating painful or limiting patterns in life. It may only be through talking to someone that you gain an understanding of what you want to work on. Therapy can be a gradual unfolding process where you have the opportunity to understand how you have become the person you are. This may include talking about how the past has influenced you, exploring your relationships then and now and the way you respond to your life as it is.
