Navigating any sudden change in your life can feel scary and lonely. Has someone you are loving died? Have you had relationship changes, life changes or lost dreams? Grief is the pain that accompanies loss. Because it is a reflection of what we love, it can feel all-encompassing. We grieve when we have lost, something or things that we value. Loss entails that a part of you, a piece of your life, has died. Grieving the life you imagined for yourself, your future, even your present.

Hi, I’m Katrina. If you’re looking for a caring, playful, genuine, open-minded, and collaborative psychologist for yourself or your child – I might be your person! I'm a PhD-level clinical psychologist who works with kids, teens, young adults and parents — though I'm happy to work with other folks if we’re a good fit. I help answer questions like, "Why do I always feel so overwhelmed and scattered?" "How can I feel more in control of my emotions?" "Why can't my kid ever remember anything?" "Is my child okay?" "How do I help my anxious kid without making things worse?" "How can I help my child (and myself?!) manage big feelings?"

Relationships in our lives present us with an infinite number of experiences that bring successes, challenges and everything in between. The stories that we live everyday contain relationships that form the foundation of our mental and physical well-being. There are times when we want the current stories in our life to continue and at other times we hope and need for something to change so that we can live the life we desire as an individual and in relation to others. Regardless of the challenges you are experiencing there is a way to find a path forward towards a desired story that will bring fulfillment and joy in your life.

It takes courage to seek help, so I commend you for taking this first step. Although therapy can seem intimidating, I view it as just like any other health service, such as the dentist or chiropractor. Just like how we visit the dentist if we have severe tooth pain or need a routine cleaning, I am here for both your traumatic experiences as well as maintenance sessions. No issue is too small when working with me and my practice, Arcadia Counselling. No one is meant to struggle alone, which is where I come in. Therapy looks different for everyone whether that is a place to unload, learn techniques, or improve your quality of life.

You can't remember the last time you were able to relax. Your mind is constantly racing with judgmental and negative thoughts about yourself and your life. All you want is to feel happy, but you don't feel good enough. People who should have been safe have hurt you and let you down, leaving you scared to open up and trust. You find yourself crying at the drop of a hat for no explainable reason, which leads you to feel more isolated and alone - disconnected from everyone. You're unsure if therapy can help, but are willing to try.

Welcome! Having been one of the first in Calgary to be certified in sex addiction therapy, the bulk of my practice consists of individuals and couples in various stages of sex and other addiction recovery. Do you need help in the struggle to remain sober? Would you benefit from guidance in the formulation and maintenance of an effective recovery plan? Do you need a compassionate listener as you make sense of the trauma of discovery? My goal is to promote awareness of your emotional life; to help you establish and negotiate appropriate boundaries; and to enhance trust in all your relationships.

My clients are thoughtful, self-aware people who often feel anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck repeating patterns they can’t seem to shift. They’ve tried managing on their own but want deeper, lasting change—more calm, confidence, and ease in daily life. Many come to me when they’re truly ready to let go of old habits, fears, or self-doubt. Through clinical hypnotherapy, we work to calm the mind, regulate the nervous system, and reprogram subconscious patterns so you can move forward feeling lighter, clearer, and more at peace.

I work with women and men who appear strong and successful on the outside, yet feel the weight of stress, pressure, or disconnection on the inside. If you’re a high-achiever searching for balance beyond productivity, a mother striving to nurture both yourself and your children, or someone beginning to heal from a controlling relationship or rigid religious experience-my practice is for you. My clients tend to be intuitive, accomplished, invested in their personal growth, and want therapy to be grounded, but not defined by research; they want their healing journey to feel as intentional and meaningful as the rest of their lives.

Helping individuals and couples navigate grief, ADHD, parenting, and life's unexpected turns. Maybe your relationship feels harder than it used to, with the same arguments repeating and connection shifting into tension, distance, or misunderstanding. Perhaps you’re parenting young kids, and everything feels louder more demanding, and exhausting, leaving you questioning if you’re doing any of this “right.” You might be carrying grief that has reshaped your world and won’t move on a set timeline, or navigating a new ADHD diagnosis that has you rethinking everything. I help you make sense of life and focus on what truly matters.

I believe healing is a journey—shaped by the many paths life can take and undertaken with bravery, at a pace that feels right for you. I will meet you where you are, holding the belief that there’s no single way forward. Each person’s story is unique, and meaningful change begins by uncovering what feels true and resonant to you. In my practice, I support clients who are experiencing anxiety, ADHD, trauma, depression, stress, work issues, life transitions and OCD. I also offer assessment and diagnostic services. Life can be hard sometimes, and my clients often tell me that they have so much going on in their lives that they're struggling to manage their emotions. Many of my clients identify themselves as being helpers and caregivers and are having a hard time finding balance in their lives. If you're tired of managing alone and want to find some peace or clarity in your life, or feel better emotionally, you've come to the right place.

You may be high-functioning on the outside but overwhelmed on the inside. Anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, addiction, or a major life transition may be quietly shaping your days. You’re tired of overthinking, emotional exhaustion, or repeating patterns that don’t reflect who you want to be. You want clarity, steadiness, and real tools that create change — not just temporary relief. Most of all, you want to feel grounded, confident, and fully yourself again.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Most Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are certified by one of the main professional associations, mainly the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and will have a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) designation with their name. Social Workers listed in the directory must be registered members of the college specific to their province. To be listed in the directory, Psychologists must be registered with the psychological college specific to their province or territory.

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given the considerable variation in professional regulation and prerequisites across Canadian provinces, some providers may possess significant professional qualifications without necessarily holding professional memberships or being obliged to acquire them. As a result, they may be selectively included without the "Verified" seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in Canada.

Psychologists have a master's and/or doctoral degree and have passed both written and oral exams. Psychologists are able to complete mental health assessments and provide diagnostic information to clients as well as provide counselling therapy or psychotherapy. Counsellors and psychotherapists are expected to have a master's or doctoral degree in counselling psychology, social work, or a related mental health discipline and certification by a professional association, such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Registered Social Workers possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work and where possible must be licensed or certified by the provincial government and/or regulatory college.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in Canada could be between $100 and $200. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. Some types of outpatient mental health services are covered by Medicare, provided these are performed by a licensed mental health professional in the provinces or territory you reside in and who accepts the assignment.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postal code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Professionals licensed by regulatory colleges and those certified by associations such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association are obligated to uphold client confidentiality unless there is a legal reason that requires them to disclose information. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others, or a court order, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
