I work from a client centered approach as the basis for our work together. We can then decide on which of the empirically supported approaches (or more likely which combination of approaches) is the best fit for you and your situation. The basis is a non-judgmental stance to what you face and designing a tailored, you-specific, empirically supported approach to help you gain a better understanding of your situation and more adaptive ways of managing or coping. I borrow from various approaches including client-centered, Cognitive-behavioral, Acceptance and Commitment, Mindfulness-based, Emotion focused, and insight oriented.

Any client is ideal, anyone who needs help is more than welcome to ask for it. I would listen to anyone, and then let them know if I have the expertise to help or not. That’s one main reason that my first session is always FREE. We not only talk about their issues and goals, but also about their strengths and capabilities. Life is not only about what’s going wrong, it’s good to see things that are going well. I work with individuals, couples and also families. Clients mostly come with personal, interpersonal, relationship, skill deficit, life change, trauma, and mood issues to seek help.

Relationships are rarely without issue despite loving one another. We become confused about how relating became so difficult! Concerns become overwhelming resulting in deep hurt, uncertainty and distancing. In fact 80% of divorce is the result of emotional disconnect, and only 40% is due to high conflict. Neither have to happen. It is possible to have better, healthier, loving relationships! I work with you to help you both understand and use tools for your disconnects, strengths, triggers, and communication breakdowns. Relating is a learned process. We can learn to turn toward, not against or away from one another and enjoy again!

Providing online sessions so that you can stay in the comfort of your home Monday - Thursday at 5pm or 6:15pm. Sitting with you as you experience the desire for a child, the loss of a child, the difficulties and mental toll of pregnancy and the postpartum years, as well as the trauma that can come from a birth experience. You may be struggling with crying all the time, an inner rage that seems uncontrollable, thoughts that are scary, constant worry, a loss of a sense of who you are, longing or an inner ache, and flashbacks or difficult memories. The feeling of tiredness and uncertainty if this will get better are becoming too much.

By strengthening relationship and fostering connection through talk and play, I take a balanced approach of addressing the needs of the parent and the child. You may be a parent/caregiver seeking to build a stronger connection with your child, deepen your understanding of presenting concerns, or strengthen family cohesiveness. You may be wanting a comfortable space for you or your child to learn strategies and build skills, or you may be simply wondering why your child acts and feels the way that they do. Sessions include meeting with parents and children separately and together.

Living a meaningful life starts with having an authentic safe space to be open and honest about where you are at. Having someone meet you in that space and support you in taking steps towards your own healing and growth can help to transition from a survival state to one of fulfillment and joy. I work in perinatal mental health, meaning anything to do with the parenting journey! Whether you are pregnant, postpartum, TTC, struggling with infertility or loss, or are thinking about kids at all, you have come to the right place! You do not have to go through this incredible transition alone.

I strive to meet my clients where they are at, and to help them achieve the changes they seek. I believe that under the right circumstances, clients have the capacity to look inward, to free themselves from feeling stuck in the past, and to find new ways to move forward. This often requires hard work, but growth and change are possible when clients are given a safe space to explore unhelpful patterns of thinking and learn to think in healthier ways. By clarifying their personal meaning, clients can be empowered to choose new directions in life.

People are often at a point in life where they realize that change needs to occur in order to promote psychological well being. I work with clients to identify their unique skills and facilitate change at their own pace. I offer services to children, teens, adults, and the elderly. The statement that drives my life view is: "Life is colourful and constantly changing." Nature appears to attest to this philosophy as well with the four seasons of colors and changes. With every season, life (and death) ebbs and flows, always towards what is to come...whatever that may be.

How can I find a therapist in T3H?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

How much does therapy cost?

Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
