Are you struggling to break your bad habits and keep healthy relationships? Maybe you're repeating unhelpful behaviors no matter how hard you try to change. Are you dealing with the consequences of impulsive decisions, losing control, or substance use? Often, these actions are the ways you learned to cope with the stresses of life to protect yourself or overcome challenges during difficult periods. When these coping mechanisms show up in life and relationships, they frequently contribute to conflict and pain. I help individual and couples better understand themselves and make lasting change with solo or marriage counselling.

Root-Cause Healing for Mind, Body, and Soul Therapy that goes beyond coping toward true transformation. Healing isn’t about suppressing symptoms; it’s about understanding the story beneath them. I became a therapist because I saw how often traditional approaches focus on “managing” problems instead of truly healing them. Too many people are taught to cope without ever uncovering why they’re struggling. My mission is to change that. I’m Oluchi Onwukwe, a Holistic Health and Wellness Coach, Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC), and passionate advocate for mind–body–spirit healing. I help individuals move beyond surface-level solutions

Life doesn’t come with a roadmap. At every stage, we face challenges—some expected, others sudden—that can leave us feeling uncertain, overwhelmed, or stuck. I believe these moments don’t have to define you. With the right support, they can become turning points toward growth, healing, and strength.

If you are reading this, it is likely because you are looking for a safe and comfortable place to explore some difficult and at times even overwhelming topics. Whether for the first time, or the fifth time, you are hoping above all else to find someone you can feel comfortable talking with. You may be having thoughts like: “How can I be feeling this way…? Why don't I ever seem to feel happy…? Or, why can’t I handle everything the way I used to…?”These thoughts can come about for many reasons; including recent or past stress, trauma(s), substance use, anxiety, depression or other mental health challenges.

It takes a lot of courage to reach out for support in processing our experiences, thoughts, and emotions, and I am honored by the opportunity to walk through this journey with you, reflecting and guiding as appropriate. I believe in a collaborative and strength-based approach based on client's values and goals. Working primarily with adults and teens, I use a variety of modalities including Accelerated Resolution Therapy to address issues such as trauma, addiction, depression, anxiety, and stress management. Using Gottman approaches I also support couples in their journey in the growth, and often healing, of their relationship.

You’ve been holding it together for so long: masking, managing and trying to keep up in a world that doesn’t always get how you think or feel. Maybe you're feeling anxious, burnt out or unsure how to cope anymore. My job as a therapist is to empower you to become your own therapist so you can lead a fulfilling life and develop self-awareness, resilience, and coping mechanisms that extend beyond the therapy room. I will honor your lived experience and walk alongside you in building the confidence you need to feel more at ease in your world without needing to change who you are. You don’t have to do this alone.

Many of us have lost touch, abandoned, forgotten, or detached from the things that make us unique, bring us joy, and motivate us to build the life that we want to live. This sense of loss can produce many side effects such as anxiety, addiction, and depression. It can also cause us to attract relationships or people in our lives that are out of alignment with our soul's essence causing conflict, confusion, and chaos. If you are feeling lost, alone, confused, anxious, or rejected by others and or yourself - these can be clues that you have lost connection with important parts of yourself.

My approach to counselling is specific to each client I work with. I believe the therapeutic process is highly creative and that it relies equally on both spontaneous diversion and meticulous planning. In addition to direct focus on the individual, I also believe deeply in the power of family dynamics, social structure, and the societal pressures that exist in our highly complex modern world.

Offering evening sessions! I am a registered psychologist who has been working in the helping field for over twenty years. While much of this work has focused on supporting at risk youth and adults experiencing or engaging in intimate partner violence, in recent years I have built a clinical practice that includes counselling adults, teenagers, and families with various combinations of mental health, behavioural, addiction, trauma and relational issues. Along with adults, I especially enjoy working with teens, families, and people who don't like counsellors.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Most Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are certified by one of the main professional associations, mainly the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and will have a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) designation with their name. Social Workers listed in the directory must be registered members of the college specific to their province. To be listed in the directory, Psychologists must be registered with the psychological college specific to their province or territory.

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given the considerable variation in professional regulation and prerequisites across Canadian provinces, some providers may possess significant professional qualifications without necessarily holding professional memberships or being obliged to acquire them. As a result, they may be selectively included without the "Verified" seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in Canada.

Psychologists have a master's and/or doctoral degree and have passed both written and oral exams. Psychologists are able to complete mental health assessments and provide diagnostic information to clients as well as provide counselling therapy or psychotherapy. Counsellors and psychotherapists are expected to have a master's or doctoral degree in counselling psychology, social work, or a related mental health discipline and certification by a professional association, such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Registered Social Workers possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work and where possible must be licensed or certified by the provincial government and/or regulatory college.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in Canada could be between $100 and $200. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. Some types of outpatient mental health services are covered by Medicare, provided these are performed by a licensed mental health professional in the provinces or territory you reside in and who accepts the assignment.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postal code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Professionals licensed by regulatory colleges and those certified by associations such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association are obligated to uphold client confidentiality unless there is a legal reason that requires them to disclose information. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others, or a court order, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
