Therapy, at its most basic, is 'talking.' You're likely reading these profiles to suss out who a good person is to talk to . If it helps, here is what experience has taught me: We are each unique. Our problems are equally unique. But all problems seem to grow from one common root: disconnection. Disconnection can be felt in many ways: fear, sadness, emptiness, pain, and anger. Troubled feelings such as these can lead to troubled responses, including but not limited to: avoidance, procrastination, addiction, disordered eating, relationship conflict, violence, self-harm and suicide.
Disconnection occurs when we feel unsafe, we feel small, we feel obstructed, and/or we feel lost. When our needs as human beings are fostered, when we live close to our values, and when we make use of our strengths, it becomes possible for us to make inspired, meaningful, sustainable change. I believe this about any problem.
With this in mind, I am committed to help people find words for what's meaningful to them. When we wrap words around a thing, it's made more understandable and 'visible'. New options emerge where once there seemed few or none and it becomes possible to reconnect with life in meaningful ways. This, I believe, is therapy.
