Hi there, my name is Elaine, and I would be honoured to support you on your mental health journey. This might include, managing your emotions, exploring and feeling confident in your identity, and providing direction in times of change. As an active musician and therapist, I have a deep understanding of how music affects people in different ways. If you've ever felt like words are hard, this might be for you. In this safe, non-judgmental, and sometimes fun space, I am here to meet you where you are and listen with compassion and curiosity. I will also guide you through opportunities to get you closer to where you want to be.

Many of my clients come in exhausted from fighting big emotions, conflicts, or old wounds that keep resurfacing. They feel disconnected from the people they love, stuck in patterns that keep hurting their relationships, or unsure how to move forward after a painful experience. I support individuals and couples make sense of their emotions, feel safer in their relationships, and build habits that nurture connection. Together, we can work towards greater self-awareness, emotional safety, and a deeper connection with yourself and others.

When I meet with clients my priority is to give them a space of non-judgement and compassion, where their thoughts and feelings can be heard, cared for, and understood. Together we can untangle where you might be feeling stuck, and map out a path forward to bring you to a new understanding of yourself, your thoughts, and the challenges you are facing. There are many reasons clients come to see me and some of these concerns include: anxiety, depression, boundaries, grief, trauma, self-esteem, trauma, family of origin and relationship issues.

I help clients with a history of childhood/developmental trauma and attachment-wounding. If you find it difficult to trust others, constantly worry about whether you're loved or whether you'll be abandoned, struggle with people-pleasing, or push others away, this can be due to attachment-wounds at play. I also deeply enjoy working with anxiety and OCD. If you are tired of surface-level coping strategies, let's work on getting to the root cause together and create meaningful and lasting change. I'd love to help you relate to your anxiety and OCD in a new way - one with less fear and deepened self-understanding.

The childhood years and the child-rearing years are some of the most wonderful, but also the most challenging stages of life. Even in the most difficult moments, we are doing the absolute best we can, given our circumstance and the skills we have.

I work primarily with adults who are interested in gaining insight into their behaviours and making changes in their life. Learning to understand our thoughts and feelings gives us the opportunity to do something different than what we have always done. These changes might include working on self-esteem issues, relationship issues, depression/anxiety, addiction, life transitions, or parenting struggles.

In life, there are moments when we feel stuck and unable to move forward, even when we are surrounded by the beauty of the world. Everyone deserves a safe space to explore vulnerabilities without judgment. As a therapist, I approach each session with warmth, empathy, compassion, and respect. Many people who experience feelings of sadness or anxiety try to avoid these emotions rather than expressing them, but I believe everyone has the capacity to grow and transform their behavior. My goal is to help clients recognize and build upon their strengths and resilience. Seeking guidance from a therapist is an important step towards healing

Finding clarity is hard. I know how overwhelming it feels to be stuck, burned out, or unsure of your next step. Life’s pressures—whether from work, school, or parenting—can leave you feeling drained and disconnected from yourself and others. I’ve personally navigated career changes and high-pressure roles while raising two bright, energetic kids, so I truly understand the juggling act many face every day. These experiences led me to psychology and shaped my passion for helping people untangle the chaos, reconnect with their inner strengths, and find clearer direction. If this speaks to you, I invite you to reach out.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Most Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are certified by one of the main professional associations, mainly the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and will have a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) designation with their name. Social Workers listed in the directory must be registered members of the college specific to their province. To be listed in the directory, Psychologists must be registered with the psychological college specific to their province or territory.

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given the considerable variation in professional regulation and prerequisites across Canadian provinces, some providers may possess significant professional qualifications without necessarily holding professional memberships or being obliged to acquire them. As a result, they may be selectively included without the "Verified" seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in Canada.

Psychologists have a master's and/or doctoral degree and have passed both written and oral exams. Psychologists are able to complete mental health assessments and provide diagnostic information to clients as well as provide counselling therapy or psychotherapy. Counsellors and psychotherapists are expected to have a master's or doctoral degree in counselling psychology, social work, or a related mental health discipline and certification by a professional association, such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Registered Social Workers possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work and where possible must be licensed or certified by the provincial government and/or regulatory college.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in Canada could be between $100 and $200. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. Some types of outpatient mental health services are covered by Medicare, provided these are performed by a licensed mental health professional in the provinces or territory you reside in and who accepts the assignment.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postal code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Professionals licensed by regulatory colleges and those certified by associations such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association are obligated to uphold client confidentiality unless there is a legal reason that requires them to disclose information. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others, or a court order, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
