I work with students to help them at home, at school and on the field of play. If your child struggles with anxiety, confidence, or managing emotions, I could help. I work with a lot of athletes that struggle with the high demands of playing competitive sport while juggling both school, family and social life. I incorporate sports and being active into my practice whenever appropriate. I have seen first hand, the benefits of being active and connected with others has on our mental health. I have sessions both in an office or in a gym space to help build confidence, resilience and emotional regulation.

I work with adults and teens (16+) dealing with various challenges such as anxiety, depression, life transition, grief, addiction, work stress/burnout, and interpersonal challenges (e.g. intimate relationships, family, work). I work with individuals ready to address old patterns/habits, acknowledge the cost of those conditioned responses, and ultimately live life, led by their true, authentic self.

Life is filled with struggles and challenges and they can seem difficult to overcome or even meet. Counselling helps people recognise the strengths that they already have to not only address life's challenges, but come out the other side stronger.

None of us deserve to face life feeling alone. You deserve a safe space where you can feel heard; a place to work through whatever comes your way; and a place to gain tools that you can use to live every day to the fullest. Perhaps you have a child who is learning to work through their emotions, or you are a young person having a hard time at school or at home. Maybe you are a parent looking to find ways to connect with your child(ren) differently than you are now or you're an adult who is about to go through a big life transition and want a listening ear.

My focus is on helping clients face difficult life challenges and the emotions, worries and fears that come with them. Stress, anxiety, and depression are more familiar to us than we would like. Our goal in therapy is to improve your coping skills and overall well-being. With that, I am a firm believer in the need for an individualized journey in therapy as opposed to a one-size fits all cookbook approach. This is about you and your life. It's deeper than some technique or strategy. And so therapy has to be founded on our relationship we build and the dynamics of it. Finding a therapist right for you is important also.

How does sports psychology work?

Sports psychology helps athletes identify and overcome challenges, such as perfectionism or a fear of failure, and improve key mental skills, such as confidence or concentration. By applying principles and techniques from psychology, such as goal-setting, visualisation, positive self-talk, and emotion regulation, sports psychologists help athletes improve their performance on the field and their well-being overall.

How long does treatment for a sports-related problem take?

The duration of sports psychology treatment depends on the athlete’s individual challenges, goals, the complexity of the interventions used, and even on the length of the season. A performance anxiety issue may be treated with a short-term treatment, like Cognitive behavioural therapy, while issues such as depression, substance abuse, or severe anxiety may require longer-term treatments.

How effective is treatment for sports performance problems?

Sports psychology has been shown to improve performance and help athletes manage their emotions. Sports psychology can be effective in boosting performance, team dynamics, and injury rehabilitation. Over the past decade, nearly every professional sports team in every major sport has added a sports psychologist to its staff. Many colleges have done the same, and even some high school programs have done the same. Olympic hopefuls may consult with sports psychologists starting in elementary school.

What are the limitations of sports psychology?

Sports psychology may have several limitations. Every athlete is unique and may respond differently to sports psychology treatments. Therapy can help an athlete reach their potential; it can help athletes cope with injury and pain, but it cannot change the physical limitations that may be affecting an athlete’s performance.
