I am a Registered Counselling Therapist, licensed through NSCCT and CCPA. I am also a certified Master ART (Accelerated Resolution Therapy) Practitioner. If you are trying to make changes in your life that are just too much on your own, please give yourself a chance and try at least one session. Even my free intake might help guide you in the direction you need. Perhaps you don't know what you want or need. Sometimes just talking things out in a private setting with a caring and qualified listener can help. I hope you find the courage to take the first step. You have nothing to lose but worries and possibly past trauma.

When you become aware that your protective system is not letting you live the life you want to lead, therapy helps unburden the parts that keep you stuck. Through Internal Family Systems therapy you can get to know your inner system of protection, distraction and inner freedom. Protection may be anxiety, anger, depression and distraction may be numbing, dissociation, addiction and procrastination. You learn that some of your protection is based on what worked in childhood but is no longer serving you now. With couples I focus on learning to become relational through the work of Terry Real's Relational Life Therapy.

You're experiencing the same negative thoughts, worries, memories, feelings, urges, and relationship issues, over and over. It seems like nothing you try works. Some things you do even seem to make things worse. In therapy you want to be heard, understood, and respected. You want to work on the issues and concerns most important to you. Regardless of how difficult it's been, you have potential to live well. As a collaborative, strengths, and action-oriented therapist I can help you struggle less with thoughts, feelings, and urges, so you can spend more of your time and energy on being the person you want to be.

Looking for an adult autism assessment with a neurodivergent psychologist? Feeling dismissed by people who don’t understand medical trauma or how hard it is to stop masking? You have the right to feel accepted, heard, and believed—even during an assessment! I was “late-diagnosed” and understand how relieving it can be after decades of feeling misunderstood and exhausted. My assessments are thorough and the options were entirely designed by autistic people, who I routinely work with to refine things. You can do the entire assessment from home and take the time you need. Do a FREE self-screen on my site here: www.ndpsych.com

I love to work with highly sensitive people at a stage where they want to drop the toxic drama and begin to engage in life rather than react to it. I love working with couples and individuals who need a different framework because their current model of the world isn't working anymore. In the second half of life, we look to relate to the world, not manage it.

Feeling overwhelmed these days? Many of us are walking around stuck in a state of fight, flight, or freeze and we may not even be aware. The latest research says that the three ways we can find calm are: connection, safety, and being in the present moment. My goal as a therapist is to provide a space that makes these conditions possible. By engaging with our emotions, our mind, and our body in a safe and integrated way, we can move past "the stuckness" and find hope in places that we didn't think were there.

My goal is to equip you with the tools/resources needed to find your ataraxis. Ataraxis: "the absence of mental stress/anxiety; peace of mind, tranquility". We all experience times when balance or peace seems out of reach. We have all felt overwhelmed, underappreciated, scared and alone. Life is hard and struggles can feel relentless. Therapy is often very necessary and will be helpful - but my hope is to give YOU the tools to cope with life as it comes at you; when it comes at you. Need me now, but not forever, because you can maintain ataraxis on your own, if given the right tools to manage whatever issue/concern you are facing.

Life comes with a variety of experiences, and everyone's journey is unique. Sometimes we face difficulties that we could use extra support to navigate. Taking the first step to seek support is a big deal! Whether you have experience with counselling, or have never tried it, thank yourself for taking that step. I work from a trauma informed perspective to help folks navigate various challenges from anxiety and depression, stress and burnout, childhood trauma and PTSD. I use an integrated approach including modalities such as EMDR, CBT, EFT, and others, because I believe that there is no "one size fits all" for successful therapy.

How can I find a therapist in Nova Scotia?
Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
How much does therapy cost?
Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
