Innovation of services and skills proven on the sands of Afghanistan and in the first responder communities of Canada, that's what I'm offering you. I’m a veteran of the Royal Canadian Air Force with almost 30 years of service, having retired in 2012. As a mediator and coach in the military and then in the police, I've been helping clients process difficult situations since the turn of the millenium! So what's the difference now? I've deepened my understanding of how we process the emotions in our experiences and am committed to returning you to the helm as the master of your ship and the captain of your soul.

Sometimes life can all add up and we find ourselves wondering “how did I get here?” or feeling stuck, not knowing what direction to take our first step. That is where therapy can help. My approach to therapy is that of genuine care and compassion balanced with gentle nudging towards the life you want to live. How do you want to show up to the world? to yourself? The answer may not be all that clear right now, but if you choose, I would be honored to walk alongside you on your therapeutic journey as you gain an understanding of your stuck points, build on coping skills, reach your goals and come out the other side of the tough stuff.

Currently not taking new clients until April 15, 2023. I work exclusively with older women as they navigate the challenges embedded in the second half of life. It is a stage of life given little recognition and yet one of the most complex . As earlier roles and identities shift and fall away, it's common for women to stand at the threshold of the next chapter ill prepared. When life doesn't unfold as we envisioned we can experience confusion, loneliness, fear or anxiety. Who are we without our earlier identities? How do we let go of all that we must and learn to honour and care for ourselves?

My approach is to allow you to bring your past into the present so that you can develop skills that free you to thrive in the future. I provide a safe, open and encouraging space to equip and free you to do three things: * identify automatic negative, limiting or unproductive thoughts and behaviours, and imagine a life beyond them; * move from the bondage of those thoughts and behaviours, into a freedom of intention and choice where you can live life with purpose and passion; * develop the skill to sustain this freedom on your own.

Unfortunately, I am not able to take new clients at this time. My approach to therapy is rooted in the view that people have an inherent capacity for healthiness. I will work with you to uncover that wellbeing again so that you can live the life you deserve with more vitality and authenticity whether you suffer from chronic illness, the burden of a traumatic injury or complex trauma, a diagnosis of PTSD, anxiety, depression, unprocessed grief, or the malaise that comes from being over-stressed and not coping as well as you'd like.

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
How much does therapy cost?
Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
