Successful psychotherapy requires close cooperation between a client seeking change, and an experienced therapist/coach to facilitate that change. I work with individuals, couples, families and expatriates in the areas of trauma, depression, anxiety and chemical dependency. I offer personalized treatment approaches from the fields of clinical counselling, organizational and occupational psychology as well as cognitive behavioral therapy. As a trained EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapist, I also encourage lifestyle adjustments as part of a holistic treatment designed to help clients cope, and continue onto their path of recovery.

Feeling stuck? Are things getting worse? If you’ve been struggling to live your best life, connect with the people you love, and be the best ‘you’ possible, I can help you to make real and lasting changes. My approach is simple: First, we get clear on who and what matters most to you. Next, we figure out what gets in the way of you moving towards who and what matters. Then we take a good look at the ways you’ve been dealing with these obstacles—and why many of them don’t seem to be working. Finally, we look for better ways to overcome these obstacles, and get you steadily moving in the direction of who and what matters.

Emotional suffering is painful and lonely. It doesn't have to be. Psychotherapy is talk therapy that promises change through self-awareness. The more understanding we have of ourselves, our feelings, the more choice, fulfillment and peace we have in our lives. Understanding our emotional life contributes greatly to the joy of life. In psychotherapy, we examine our emotional life with the goal of distinguishing functional from dysfunctional patterns of behaviour. Psychotherapy provides a context for close examination of our relational life and can help us uncover relational habits that contribute to our suffering.

Counselling is a process that can be undertaken at various stages in life and for any number of reasons, from challenges in relationships, to existential matters, anxiety, depression and trauma. Counselling may look different for every individual, but generally entails meaningful discussion, opportunities for self-exploration, the potential for profound insight, and the development of action plans to meet personal goals. My practice is built around particular core values and principles. I work with my clients by building on their strengths, resources and resiliency, as I believe these are essential for navigating life’s challenges.

I have been working as a therapist for a long time, both in Canada and the United States. I have a license and I am approved by a professional group (CRPO) in Ontario, Canada. In my work, I use a therapy called EMDR that helps people who have been through difficult experiences. This therapy helps them feel better and enjoy their lives more. I also use other types of therapy, like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Narrative Therapy.

How can I find a therapist in L1S?
Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
How much does therapy cost?
Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
