I help people get Unstuck from the internal and external struggles that keep us from living fully, now. We humans suffer, not only because of the inevitable pain that life presents, but because of the difficult emotions, thoughts, memories, urges and sensations we experience in response to the pain. We humans are also incredibly adaptive, with the ability to demonstrate tremendous courage, compassion and resiliency that allows us to overcome and grow from adversity and difficult personal histories. My approach is client-centered, collaborative, solution-focused, and grounded in evidence-based science.

Many people go through life believing that the negative life circumstances and struggles in their lives such as low-self-esteem, abuse, depression, anxiety, unhelpful habits and behaviours, feeling unloved, neglected, addictions, unable to trust, or having to live with a disability, illness or past failures will stop them from reaching their full potential in life. The truth is all people who become successful, have worked to turn negative events and thoughts, into their greatest strengths, by changing the way they think about their lives and learning new, more effective coping skills. Are you ready for change?

As a Filipino immigrant and/or a neurodivergent individual, you're seeking clarity on what your lived experiences mean to you. You want to cut through society’s noise and be able to personally define your identity. You want to embark on this journey of self-exploration, yet somehow it gets lonely. You wonder if anyone can ever understand and relate to the complexities of your story. This is why I believe that representation matters. I value putting my identity and lived experiences forward to foster a deeper sense of connection. I create a safe space where you can unpack your lived experiences without judgment.

Everything we experience impacts both our mind & body. Unfortunately, more often than not we end up living in our head as a result of things like stress & anxiety. While our mind can be an insightful place, it can also be isolating if we spend too much time there. The irony in this default pattern is that our bodies are incredibly reliable sources that provide us with valuable information. They have the ability to warn & inform us of our triggers, boundaries, perceptions & fears. “What the mind suppresses, the body expresses." By listening to both, you can begin to understand yourself in a deeper capacity.

Accepting New Clients - I know how intimidating and difficult it can be to reach out for help and take that first step towards personal growth and self-discovery. I am grateful that I get to accompany my clients during this journey. I work from a biopsychosocial framework. I know that there is no “one-size-fits-all” approach to therapy and I aim to customize my approach according to each client and their individual needs. I have a great deal of experience supporting individuals who are struggling with addiction.

Are you a young person or adult looking to talk to someone about how you have been feeling? Sometimes accessing therapy can be scary to have to face uncomfortable conversations! Especially when we have to talk about some of the icky feelings and emotions we have been managing over time. I am open-minded and understand young people's experiences due to possible self-esteem challenges, peer pressure, identity concerns, and family conflict.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
How much does therapy cost?
Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
