The diagnoses I have the most experience with are anxiety disorders, eating disorders, substance use disorders, and mood disorders.
I balance a genuine optimism for your well-being with a realistic understanding that life is inevitably hard sometimes. Therapy with me is a space to start to explore what wellness, healing, coping and safety looks like for you. Everyone is unique, including you, and so I integrate a number of therapeutic modalities, so that our work meets you where you're at and celebrates you as you are. I maintain a critical hope in my work alongside critical thinking skills; I understand that your individual mental health is impacted by the larger social structures we live in.

Whether you’re struggling through anxiety or loneliness or heart break or shame or depression or are in the depths of addictive behaviours, or you just feel way too overwhelmed all the time, I believe in therapy and it’s potential to heal.
Entering therapy can be scary. There are so many things to think about. What happens if that tightly held container you’ve been putting things in, overruns you and floods you once you start opening up about hard things? What if you feel more judgment and more shame from therapy? Opening up to another human being can be hard and therapy may feel like a calculated risk, and I understand this. It is a risk. What I can also tell you, though, is that I strive to provide you with a caring, respectful, non-judgmental environment. I will make the environment as safe as I can, so you can articulate those things you need to talk about.

What’s on your mind? From finding the right words- to saying them out loud- giving voice to your thoughts can be scary. Struggles with relationships, self-esteem, anxiety and immigration can feel overwhelming to anyone. Finding a safe space and a non-judgmental perspective can be one of the best ways to process your feelings or thoughts. Having lived and worked in Brazil, the U.S., and Canada, I understand how different experiences and cultures can help shape who we are. I bring this empathy- and curiosity- to my practice. I can help you find out how to feel like yourself again, even if you're at a different phase of your life.

These brains of ours don't come with instruction manuals - figuring out how to navigate life is tough enough, but can sometimes seem impossible when we experience mental health difficulties. I specialize in working with people with BPD (attachment trauma), anxiety disorders, OCD, couples and people with complex difficulties who may have been given multiple diagnoses. Therapy can be a strange process, I try to make it simple and straightforward. We get to know each other, and figure out if we’re a good fit. We get a clear picture of what the problems are, and what’s going wrong (and what’s going right) in your life.

I can help you by creating the space to share how you feel, without worrying about being judged or feel like you are burdening anyone.
My ideal client is anyone that may be struggling with their mood, or are in a difficult life stage that they need help navigating. Whether you are a child with separation anxiety, an adolescent or young adult going through a break up or a first time parent. I welcome clients who have specific goals for therapy and know what they want to work on. I also welcome clients who have no idea what goal setting is or how to set goals. I encourage the very brave and courageous clients who are skeptical about therapy and aren’t quite sure what they can gain from therapy or how they can benefit.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
