In my experience, I have worked with many individuals who have struggled with
anxiety
, depression, life transitions, and conflict in their relationships.
Managing our relationships, work, school, and life changes can feel overwhelming. You may be overthinking about friends, jobs and relationships, or having a difficult time developing and maintaining positive relationships with family, friends, or partners. While these challenges pile up,
anxiety
, anger, and sadness can start to cloud our thinking making it hard to tackle what we're experiencing on our own. Therapy can help us cope with what we're are going through, while also helping us learn more about ourselves along the way and regain control over parts of our life we felt we lost.

You are a middle-aged adult with a loving spouse, kids and a full-time job. Things seem to be ok, but deep down you have an exhausting feeling of disconnect from life.
Anxiety
and stress is taking you away from enjoying your life. You spend a lot of time worrying and ruminating about past life events. You have a very low sense of self-worth and confidence. You stress about small things, get bogged down by negative emotions and feelings about yourself and others, snap at kids and recently started to question if your relationship with your spouse/partner is any good. You wish to change the way you feel about life.

I'm looking forward to working with you; I have lived experience with
anxiety
, depression and addiction and the training to help you.
Do you feel anxious and alone these days? Does it feel like no one is listening to you? Perhaps you've always been a little nervous, but were able to cope without any trouble. Now things have changed it's not easy to do your job or live without wondering what others will think. You want to do more living and spend less time being in your own head, and you've discovered this isn't easy to talk about. You don't want to burden your friends, and would they understand anyway? Still, this is impacting your life, your health and your relationship. Right now you probably don't talk about this with anybody. I can help.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
