Dominik Piehlmaier, Ph.D. is an assistant professor (UK lecturer) in the Department of Strategy and Marketing at the University of Sussex Business School. He holds a Ph.D. in Consumer Behavior and Quantitative Methods from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Piehlmaier studied, among other institutions, at Yale University and worked for the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) at Stanford University.

His research focuses on overconfidence, a cognitive bias that describes the tendency to overestimate one's skills and impact on uncertain outcomes while underestimating or ignoring the role of risk and ambiguity. Piehlmaier's work is embedded in the judgment and decision-making literature. He applies advanced quantitative methods to experimental and large secondary data to explore the phenomenon of overconfidence and develop feasible tools to improve the quality of human decisions under uncertainty.
