I use an integrative, and individualized approach in the treatment of depression, anxiety, panic attacks, PTSD, fainting, suicidal ideation, self-harming etc., in relation to chronic pain, phobias, OCD, social isolation, ADHD, life transitions, grief, body dysmorphia (body image), sexuality, relationships, infidelity, burn-out, break-ups and blended families. We can decide which modalities together, since each one has its strengths and weaknesses depending on the presenting issues: ACT, Cognitive Behavioural (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Humanistic, Solution-Focused (SFT), Strength-based, and Cognitive Processing (CPT).

One million Canadian men suffer from major depressive disorder each year. Three of every four completed suicides in Canada are by men. The prevalence of alcohol use disorder is twice as high in men with another mental health diagnosis than in the general population. One third of Canadian men worry that talking about mental health at work could put their job at risk. Men are just as likely as women to have mental health issues yet are far less likely to utilize traditional mental health services. Men are more likely to believe that mental health services are difficult to access, ineffective and invasive. At Cogent, Ontario’s new mental health clinic focussed solely on supporting men, we’re changing that.

Accepting new clients for morning and evening appointments! I approach therapy with a sense of curiosity. I enjoy taking a collaborative approach which includes supporting individuals to create and re-evaluate their therapy related goals. While in session, I use my gentle approach to provide validation, supportive counselling and skill building.

If you're looking for unconditional acceptance and emotional safety, you've found it. My approach is client-centered, psychodynamic, and trauma-informed, which means I adjust my methods to suit the client I am working with. I believe human development is ongoing, but that the patterns of thought, emotion, and behaviour we learn in early life can impact us for the rest of our lifetime. The good news is, these patterns can change. I will help you bring awareness to your patterns, learn how to take care of yourself lovingly, and make conscious choices about how to live that help you feel more whole.

Sometimes we all feel stuck or like we could benefit from more support. Therapy provides an opportunity to be heard, acknowledge our feelings, and work towards positive changes in our lives. Deciding to reach out for counselling can be an intimidating task, but being understood grounds us in our own truths, bodies and experiences so that we can show up in our lives as the people we truly are. I believe we are most authentic when we can openly and honestly express ourselves in an environment that is both supportive and safe.

Clients tell me they appreciate the practical nature of our conversations and that I offer tools and ideas they can understand and apply. They also report valuing my ability to understand them and my directness in responding. Their feedback means a lot to me, because it is my first priority to help my clients make a difference in their own lives.

An ideal client is someone who wants better for themselves- whatever that looks like. I see the most growth in clients who trust the process and are open to exploring parts of themselves, their histories, and their relationships that they haven't before. This openness creates space for real change, as we work together to uncover patterns, beliefs, and emotions that may be holding you back. Whether it's healing from past trauma, improving communication in relationships, or finding ways to manage anxiety, those who engage fully in this journey tend to see the most meaningful and lasting transformation.

As a therapist, I can support you with caregiver burnout and stress. I am passionate about providing neurodiversity and LGBTQ+ affirming care. Many of my clients are seeking support understanding and working with neurodiversity. I also have a personal connection to bariatric surgery and disordered eating and would love to help others going through the same journey.

Accepting New Clients. 'Everything, all at once, everywhere' and 'it's like a salad bar,' are two of my favorite phrases about ADH(D) and Autism. The first captures the sometimes chaotic, sometimes invigorating nature of ADH(D). The second, captures the vast diversity of the Autistic experience. Being an ADH(D)er, Autistic person, or both, AuDH(D)er, brings many strengths, and due to living in a world not designed for our brains, many challenges. Perhaps you keep burning out in a boom/bust cycle. Perhaps you blame yourself for struggling to do things the way you "should." Perhaps the demands of work, school or home are overwhelming.

Some of the concerns I often help clients with include: depression, anxiety, psychosis, trauma (of many kinds), self-endangerment, self-esteem, relationships, grief and loss, LGBTQ2S+, sexuality and gender identity, and more. Wherever you might be in the process of working through those issues (or others) is where we will pick up. I am passionate about providing hope and helping clients to reexamine limiting beliefs in a way that helps them achieve their goals. I work with an admin team through Spacious Mind Counselling.com to ensure a quick reply to your emails if you would like to reach out.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
Most Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are certified by one of the main professional associations, mainly the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and will have a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) designation with their name. Social Workers listed in the directory must be registered members of the college specific to their province. To be listed in the directory, Psychologists must be registered with the psychological college specific to their province or territory.
Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given the considerable variation in professional regulation and prerequisites across Canadian provinces, some providers may possess significant professional qualifications without necessarily holding professional memberships or being obliged to acquire them. As a result, they may be selectively included without the "Verified" seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?
Psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in Canada.
Psychologists have a master's and/or doctoral degree and have passed both written and oral exams. Psychologists are able to complete mental health assessments and provide diagnostic information to clients as well as provide counselling therapy or psychotherapy. Counsellors and psychotherapists are expected to have a master's or doctoral degree in counselling psychology, social work, or a related mental health discipline and certification by a professional association, such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Registered Social Workers possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work and where possible must be licensed or certified by the provincial government and/or regulatory college.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in Canada could be between $100 and $200. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. Some types of outpatient mental health services are covered by Medicare, provided these are performed by a licensed mental health professional in the provinces or territory you reside in and who accepts the assignment.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postal code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Professionals licensed by regulatory colleges and those certified by associations such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association are obligated to uphold client confidentiality unless there is a legal reason that requires them to disclose information. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others, or a court order, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
