Have you ever felt alone, disconnected or abandoned? I’ve had those moments too. Growing up amidst parental mental illness came with a lot of challenges but it also gave me compassion and understanding. We needed the support of a caring community of family and friends to help us walk through many difficult times. My lived experiences inspired me to study psychology and human behavior for much of my adult life. This pursuit has provided me with the opportunity to help others so they can feel supported on their journey.

Does it feel like intrusive thoughts are overtaking your world? Are these thoughts sometimes strange and unusual to your character, or do they go against your values? Are you engaging in mental or physical activities to relieve the feelings of distress or discomfort you may be experiencing? Maybe these activities are completed to avoid what feels like an irresistible urge. Are you looking to regain your day-to-day life and learn how to live well with OCD?

When people of any age go through stressors and trauma, it is common to feel like life is falling apart. In my own life journey I have experienced traumas, serious illnesses, and deaths of people closest to me. I know what it is to feel depressed and alone. I know what it’s like to grieve and feel like no one understands. My passion is to help people navigate through trauma and difficult situations, and feel a sense of peace and healing. Everyone’s journey is different and unique, so there is not a cookie cutter approach that’s right for every individual.

I've been there, too... experiencing the heaviness of what feels like an unsolvable problem—wanting relief. From my lived experience, I know that in those times, being with another empathetic, caring and compassionate human made a difference in my life. Understanding the power of these connections, I've made it my life's work to be that person for others. I currently work with folks 18+ who envision and hope for something different in their life. Together we focus on changing your relationship to things like anxiety, depression, uncertainty, grief, shame, and questions of self-worth, to name a few.

Do you struggle with maintaining relationships or struggling with transitions in your life as a new parent? Your childhood continues to surface through flashbacks or relationship patterns impacting your ability to trust others and yourself, or have led to struggles with setting boundaries and valuing your own self worth. My clients come to a supportive space to feel heard, understood without judgement. We can work together to help you be more aware of the patterns that are repeating in parenthood, in relationships and the workplace that are not your fault but aren't effective and can be treated with supportive trauma therapy.

I am currently accepting new clients for both virtual and in-person counselling. My goal is to provide a safe, non-judgemental space for clients to express their worries and difficulties. I will help you tap in to your existing strengths and we will work together to practice new coping skills to help you achieve your therapeutic goals. Sometimes life's stressors make us feel like a pressure cooker and we need to "release some of the steam" so that we can cope. Therapy sessions are the perfect place to do this without worrying about overburdening friends and family.

How can I find a therapist in Barrie?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

How much does therapy cost?

Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $300 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
