The decision to begin therapy can take a great deal of vulnerability and courage. Sharing your thoughts, feelings, and other personal experiences with someone unfamiliar can be difficult and it's important to work with a counselor who allows you to be completely authentic as you begin your journey of personal growth and healing. I take pride in providing a safe, judgement-free environment for each individual I work with in order to help them meet their fullest potential.

I use techniques grounded in neuroscience, attachment theory, somatics, and mindfulness to honor the wisdom in your body and to guide you toward your most authentic self, rewiring your nervous system in a way that builds back trust with yourself and others.
Do you feel chronically disconnected or stuck in unhelpful patterns despite "knowing better"? This misalignment might be affecting your physical health, your relationships, your sense of self, and your visions for the future. While many of the strategies you relied upon in early life were both necessary and adaptive, they can also become what hold you back later in life. What if we explore some of your origin stories and update those defaults to better reflect who you are, instead of who you believed you had to be? What if we deepen your self-belonging, thereby strengthening your capacity to connect more effortlessly with others?

I use mindfulness, existential-humanistic, acceptance/commitment, narrative, and emotion focused techniques to help individuals achieve their desired results.
While we possess many innate tools to cope effectively with adversity, there are many factors that can serve as barriers to achieving and maintaining a healthy balance in life. Whether these barriers relate to internal processes or external circumstances, I believe that it is often beneficial for us to practice vocalizing our experience to others. Doing so can serve as a protective factor, helping us to cope more effectively with any radical internal monologues that may pop up from time to time.

Some of my therapeutic models include Mindfulness, CBT, Solution-focused Therapy, and Systems Theory.
My passion is driven through the use of self, and fostering an environment that can lead to self-actualization. We often ask ourselves, how can we become better and feel like we have self-worth? Do you find yourself often thinking, how can I take the next step to better my overall emotional health and live a life of purpose and fulfillment? Therapy can lead to a better understanding of our own mental health and reveal underlining causes that are often caused by our own self-disrupting behaviors. I believe that each and every person has the toolbelt they need to overcome their daily struggles, but we often just need some assistance.

I use a mixture of methodologies including, Mindfulness, Health at Every Size (HAES), Adult Attachment, and Somatic Experience, in addition to building a foundational understanding of how our culture of upbringing affects our current patterns.
I have immediate openings for in-person and telehealth, and I accept Aetna and BCBS. I am happy to do a 15 minute consultation to see if this is the right fit for you and tell you more about how I work. But generally, I find it useful for all my clients to start by building skills around being more compassionate to themselves. With a foundation of self-love, we can then begin to peel back the layers to do the deeper internal work. We will co-create goals and check in regularly to see how progress is going. You already have an inner wisdom and my job is to help you hear it more clearly.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
