As a Marriage & Family and EMDR-trained therapist, I possess specialized training to guide individuals, couples, and families in resolving issues and overcoming trauma that has been holding them back. I believe every person has an innate motivation to move towards the best version of themselves. I view my position in the therapeutic relationship as supporting a person through what may be a very difficult time so that the individual or family can move forward. I view therapy from a person-centered perspective, meaning an individual or family leads decisions regarding change. What I find most important in counseling is the therapeutic relationship between client and counselor. I nurture this relationship by providing a safe space for people to explore their deep personal struggles while I remain nonjudgmental and empathetic.

Matt (he/him) is a Licensed Psychological Associate, under the direct licensure and supervision of Diana Storey, PsyD, holding a MS in Psychology from Texas A&M Commerce, and offering extensive experience working with adolescents (14 and up), adults and couples. Matt can help with anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, bipolar disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), trauma and PTSD (including religious trauma), sleep disorders, eating disorders, marital/relationship problems, and a multitude of other presenting concerns related to emotional expression, interpersonal communication, and habit formation.

I have a burning desire to help individuals and families struggling with what often seems like impossible problems and a wavering faith. I know that people crave restoration through change and want to help them on this journey. I provide a safe environment to explore sensitive issues, founded on respect and caring for the client. My own personal journey of growth gives me a unique perspective that I use with each client.

My goal in therapy is not just symptom reduction but liberation from suffering.

I work with individuals, couples, and families in helping them achieve control over "emotional hijacking" and poor decision making. Feelings like fear, sorrow, anger, rejection prevent people from experiencing connectedness with life and with others. Therefore, the ideal client is one who is struggling with relationship problems, anger, addictions (sexual or chemical), poor stress control, depression, or anxiety-I provide a safe environment where the individual's pain and/or struggle is met with understanding alongside a plan of action to address the issue(s).

What do you hope would be better about yourself, about your life, about your marriage, about your family? This is my chief focus as a therapist. I get to the heart of what you really want and hope for in the first session, beginning with the end in mind. I believe hope is an essential mechanism for change in human beings. Hope drives us to accomplish the greatest feats in our lives. I have assisted people in striving for hope during my times in ministry, youth work, crisis response and in the counseling setting. I work with individuals, couples and families. I especially enjoy helping couples get back to having a hopeful marriage.

I find that individuals situations are unique, challenging, and at times can be very frustrating. I want to help people navigate through their experiences. I want to be that individual that helps give you clarity for what steps are needed.

My client population includes children, adolescents and adults. I work with individuals as well as families. I facilitate numerous groups and skills training curriculum in various topics including adolescent first offenders, anger management, divorce and separation, parenting, and teen issues.

Lifeworks Counseling Center, PLLC has been in business since 1992. We provide therapy for ages 4 and up. We have 9 therapists (LPC, LMFT, LCSW) who provide counseling for almost any emotional/mental/spiritual challenge people face in today's culture.
