I am an LMFT with a specialty in trauma. Trauma has many layers and degrees, and I believe that trauma is completely subjective to the person experiencing it. I particularly enjoy working with first responders, high-conflict couples, and individuals dealing with past trauma. I am a Christian counselor; however, I recognize that everyone's faith journey is different, and I respect that. As an LMFT, I look at all issues from a systems perspective and add that to neuroscience knowledge to help normalize responses. The hope is to identify and change patterns for more effective relationships.

I've been a therapist for over 40 years and thoroughly enjoy my work. I understand the personal nature of therapy and the difficulty it takes to ask for help when already feeling overwhelmed and vulnerable. I appreciate the responsibility and privilege given me when invited to join you in discussing personal and even painful issues. I'll listen, assume nothing, judge nothing, impose nothing and try to find a solution as individual and personal as your dilemma, as quickly as possible.

My approach to helping is based on my client's perspective rather than my own. I contend that appreciating and respecting the client's experience for what it is, is essential to productive therapeutic growth. I view counseling as a highly personal and subjective experience, where developing an empathic, connected and trusting relationship is imperative; it is through the safety of this connection that clients can work toward positive change. While I have had extensive experience working with a wide variety of clients, my specializations include women's issues (including domestic violence and trauma), relationships, GLBTQI issues, pregnancy/infertitility issues, internet addiction and couples work.

I'm a specialist in sexual addiction as well as betrayal trauma for spouses.
God values your family unit and so do I. Unfortunately in today's stressful world disharmony results. If you are willing, together we can work on healing and restoration. Depression, anxiety, sexual addiction, and relationship issues are problems I frequently see. Through Biblical counseling I strive to help you see yourself as Christ sees you. You are unique, precious and deeply loved by God. As a Christian, I strive to treat the whole person: body, soul, & spirit. For this, we've created a calming, peaceful environment for relaxation therapy. As a LPC-S and nurse, I specialize with medical issues like cancer, infertility, depression & anxiety.

Sex addiction doesn't have to continue ruining your life. Life may feel hopeless, and your anxiety may be higher than you've ever felt before. Yet, it doesn't have to stay this way. My clients all have two things in common: 1) They want to be here for themselves, even when others are making them, and 2) They work to achieve their goals. They come to me usually in a state of panic or depression, or some even come in when their world is chaotic and out of control. When you're ready to tackle your issues, give me a call.

“Why didn’t I know about my husband’s cheating and intimacy issues?” “Is this relationship ending or can it be repaired?” When betrayal trauma happens, it’s important that you find somebody trained or experienced in supporting you through this. I have a group for women who are in a state of shock and need to find the way forward. I also offer intensive coaching to start healing from the anger, sadness, confusion, numbness....you need help for these feelings. Day 1 of finding out about infidelity, porn addiction, or sex addiction is commonly called "D" day - or discovery day. My personal and professional experience can help.

In life we experience unpleasant moments during our journey with ups and downs; sometimes it can feel more overwhelming rather than positive. It might look like dissolving relationships personal or professional, difficulty expressing emotions, or anger getting the best of you. It could be spending too much time in your head than living in the moment and missing out in life.

You wake up every day feeling like you’re living a lie. You are always super careful with what you say or do to make sure you’re not judged or treated differently by others. Maybe you even catch yourself wishing you were “normal” and hating who you are. It can be very confusing trying to navigate our world as a gay man. You often feel on edge and exhausted trying to fit in with the norm of what our society says a man should be! It can be confusing trying to make sense of all the different parts that make up who are, such as gender, sexual orientation, race/ethnicity and religious beliefs.

Taking the first step towards making change is often the hardest, but you are not alone. Together we will work towards identifying your goals. It can be making changes to your relationships, mood, healing from trauma, or anything in between. Often, we ignore these things either by distracting or numbing ourselves. While it can be uncomfortable to sit with the discomfort of troubling times, there is growth and healing waiting for you on the other side.

My ideal client understands that they need a seasoned and perceptive counselor to walk with them in their issues which usually stem from challenging relationships. These could include processing anxiety, depression, marital issues, loss & grief, aging, sexual dysfunction or addiction, life transitions, and navigating the challenges from adolescence all the way through to senior adulthood. My clients are seeking help with today and hope for tomorrow. I work with church hurt issues both for church professionals as well as participants. My hope is to see clients flourish when they feel stuck, and to live life to the fullest!

Sexual Addiction Therapists

When should someone seek treatment for sex addiction?

People should seek treatment for sex addiction if they cannot control their sexual thoughts or behaviours to the point that it disrupts their ability to function in daily life, for example by threatening their finances, career, or relationships. This may include spending an excessive amount of time obsessing over sex, planning sex, watching pornography, or masturbating, as well as consistently engaging in risky sexual activities, using sex to escape distressing feelings, or attempting yet failing to control sexual behavior.

What are the most common treatment options for sex addiction?

Psychotherapy is the most common treatment for sex addiction; therapy helps patients better understand their compulsive thoughts and behaviors and develop strategies to manage their desires. Therapy may be supplemented by medications, such as antidepressants, mood stabilizers, anti-androgens, and the alcohol and substance use medication Naltrexone, as well as support groups, such as 12-step programs.

How long does therapy take for sex addiction?

Recovering from compulsive behavior takes time and effort. There’s no precise timeline for treatment, but research suggests 12 therapy sessions may be enough to see change. Treatment for sexual compulsions requires honesty in therapy, a commitment to understanding triggers and developing coping skills, and potential lifestyle changes such as cutting out alcohol or drugs.

What if sex addiction is left untreated?

Compulsive sexual behavior can have serious repercussions if left unaddressed. For example, if sexual obsessions consume the vast majority of a person’s time, they may lose their job. If they can’t stop paying for sex, their finances may suffer. If they’re dishonest in their relationships, their partner may leave them. If they consistently feel shame, they may struggle with anxiety, depression, or loneliness. Therapy can help people develop the tools to manage sexual thoughts and behaviors that feel uncontrollable.
