I specialize in working with those who have experienced interpersonal trauma such as sexual violence and emotional abuse.
My favorite part about being a therapist is working collaboratively with you to build a unique therapeutic relationship that feels comfortable and authentic. My style has been described as warm, nurturing, active, and transparent, and I will always prioritize your autonomy in therapy. I often work with individuals who want to have more fulfilling relationships and feel more connected to themselves and others. I will always celebrate your joy, humor, creativity, and whichever parts of yourself that you want to share. I aim to practice with a non-pathologizing lens that honors your story, experiences, and unique position in the world.

It is brave to seek out help on your path to healing. Many of us get the message that healing is an individual journey but trauma and healing are rooted in the context in which we live. Healing is a process that is made possible by building loving connection with ourselves and others.

I have specialized experience working with folks who present with developmental and relationship trauma, dissociative disorders, eating struggles, and self-injurious behavior.
We are often impacted by our past experiences in both known unknown ways, and these experiences can dictate how we form relationships with ourselves and others. Symptoms such as anxiety, depression, dissociation, difficultly forming lasting relationships, eatings struggles - just to name a few - are signals that something else, something deeper, needs to be addressed. My goal is to collaborate on creating a secure therapeutic relationship where we can be curious about your present and past, and create longer lasting change and symptom relief.

As a person-centered therapist, I strive to ensure my clients feel seen, heard, and supported on their mental health journey. With focus areas of anxiety, depression, and trauma I feel that understanding is the basis of healing. Many barriers exist in accessing mental health care and finding the right therapist shouldn’t be one of them. I am a licensed professional counselor and received my Master’s degree from Temple University in Philadelphia. I've worked in university and group practice settings providing therapy to teens, college students, and clients in their 20s and 30s. I also provide Christian counseling upon request.

I help individuals and couples work on trauma, psychological and relational issues and behaviors so that they can resolve them and enrich their lives. I have been a clinical psychologist since the mid-eighties and I view our work together as a collaborative process. I will begin by learning about and understanding you and your problem and we will figure out together what has contributed to your difficulties. The next step is to create a treatment plan tailored to you and your goal/s. Treatment consists of resolving these difficulties and re-accessing joy and interest in life.

I’ve helped clients across the lifespan with issues like anxiety, depression, substance use, trauma, grief + loss, life transitions, identity development, and sociopolitical stress + climate anxiety.
Whether you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, numb, hopeless, or just curious - talking to someone can help. With the right therapist, you’ll learn to identify patterns in your thinking and behavior, improve moment-to-moment awareness and self-regulation, and deepen your understanding of the circumstances around your suffering - and eventually come to terms with them and/or change them altogether.

Clients who will benefit more from working with me are complex, sensitive persons and couples going through some kind of life transition, or some relational or existential crisis, who want to understand themselves better, integrate the many sides of their identity, "own" their experiences, and reflect about their life course and ways of being and relating. Also persons willing to heal from trauma, to build resiliency and unleash post-traumatic growth. I have lived in Europe, Africa and USA, and have developed an expertise in immigration, acculturation, and international and transnational identities and experiences.

I help adults heal from anxiety and trauma.
Maybe you're tired of showing up for others in the hopes that they'll show up for you, but they don't reciprocate and you're left feeling drained. You may desire community but the thought of "what if everyone actually hates me?" keeps you lonely and anxious. You might be noticing some shifting in your desires for relationships or sexuality and you're feeling confused and scared. You might even want to cry or hide when thinking about bringing up hard conversations with loved ones about what you truly need. Regardless, you know you want support from an experienced and warm professional who understands that change is hard but worth it.

My first priority is for my clients to feel safe and heard, and I believe it is my job to create that space. As I’ve seen in my personal and professional life, therapy can save lives both figuratively and literally by developing acceptance, hope, and change. Some challenges I support clients through include relationship issues, communication, emotion and mood regulation, and trauma from childhood or adult abuse. My personal experiences allow me to better relate to and understand clients with whom I share similarities. My role is to walk alongside my clients, eliciting their self-knowledge, and offering tools along the way.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
