I specialize in working with children and adolescents ages 2 and up. I treat symptoms such as: separation-anxiety,enuresis/encopresis, anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress -disorder, oppositional and disruptive behavior, attention deficits, school resistance, poor academic performance, difficulty with peer relations, gender dysphoria and conflicts around sexual orientation. While I work with children individually, I also regularly involve parents. I aim to position myself as a support person for everyone in the family, particularly parents, knowing that the emotional well-being of children is entwined with the emotional well-being of the people who care for them.

I have experience with working with a range of addictions (primarily substance abuse, gambling, food, sex, spending) trauma , as well as mood (depression, anxiety) and adjustment disorders (such as divorce, death, problems in school/work) are also an area in which I specialize in, and therapy for this may be brief.
I consider my greatest therapeutic strength as my ability to built rapport and connection with my clients. I create a very laid back, non threatening environment that allows for each client to focus on their individual treatment needs. My experience includes years of counseling experience, supervisor/supervisee, and continuing education to keep with current and ethical practices. As a therapist, I prefer to meet each client where they are and help them on a path to where they would like to be.

I am an intersectional, trauma informed clinician.
I see myself as a life consultant and partner in change. Clients working with me are tired of feeling stuck in behaviors or emotional ruts that don't afford them freedom to live well. Trying new things, taking risks and experimenting with new ways of thinking, feeling and behaving are all part of the coaching. The client who sees me is ready, willing and, even if a bit scared, ready to find a centered self. I work both through talk and experiential, intersectional models. I am proficient in helping folks with grief, anxiety, body image issues and most life transitions. Life is hard and support and challenge can make it easier.

New therapies have introduced powerful new tools for resolving trauma .
I have been a clinical psychologist for over 30 years. I help people with a wide range of human difficulties: depression, anxiety, fear, eating disorders, trauma and the ordinary changes in life's journey. As a seasoned therapist I use an integrated approach, blending several theoretical frameworkds and techniques. Some people come to therapy to know themselves better; others because they are deeply troubled by life's circumstances or inner demons. My job is to help people create the changes they want, and, in the process, undo the shame they often carry into their struggles.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
