As a therapist with a focus on developmental trauma and working with queer and trans adults and teens, I believe that early life experiences and ongoing structural contexts immensely inform our relationship to ourselves and each other. I hold this framework with my background in somatic psychotherapy, which considers the ways our bodies and nervous systems relate to our emotions and experiences. There is no one way to relate to the past, embody our feelings, or find healing. In therapy, we find a way for you together. My role is to hold consistent curiosity, rigor, and care throughout the process of your own self-discovery.

In working with trauma, I use modalities such as EMDR, Structural Dissociation techniques, and Somatic Experiencing.
I welcome those into my practice who are struggling with a range of issues, including depression, anxiety, and PTSD. I am trauma-informed, with twenty years of experience working with adults, children and families. I have worked with adults and teens who have come to seek treatment for various types of developmental traumas such as childhood physical and sexual abuse, neglect, as well as single incident trauma. I welcome anyone who is looking to create a safe working alliance through which to explore issues with boundaries and self care, whereby I can assist you in the cultivation of a compassionate inner awareness.

I bring somatic and mindfulness approaches in that help us use the body’s innate wisdom to understand the core wounds that may be driving your pain.
On our therapy journey together, I will guide you through a collaborative process that helps you explore the difficult questions present in your life. How can I quiet my constant inner critic? How can I feel less overwhelmed? How do I accept myself for who I am if there are things about myself I don’t like? Sitting with questions such as these, we will ground into their root causes to help you find relief from emotional pain, gain clarity on your issues, and develop coping skills to move forward. I take an eclectic, interconnected, and social justice-informed approach that meets you in the unique place you’re in while growth.

Grounded in Hakomi & Relational Somatic Healing, key to our work is slowing down to re-connect you to the unfolding wisdom of your body.
I welcome couples, co-parents, families & individuals with care, acceptance and curiosity about your inner world & relationships. My aim is for all your parts to feel safe, valued and heard. While somatic psychotherapy is central to our work, when in alignment and given my social work and yogic awareness, I will also at times be directive and solution oriented to actively promote your inspired transformation and life. Collaborative & consistent relationships heal trauma, decrease emotional reactivity and increase creativity, flexibility & playfulness. This is a journey we take together as we co-create a healing relationship.

My approach as a relational and somatic therapist is to create a safe and collaborative space to explore your relationship with yourself, others, and the world. By applying mindfulness and somatic therapy techniques, our work together will unearth unconscious beliefs and patterns in order to increase self awareness, develop resilience, and experience wholeness. While we can't change difficult or traumatic experiences of the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve challenges in your current life.

My work is further informed by therapeutic approaches such as Gestalt, Hakomi, Buddhist Psychology, Jungian depth psychology, inner-child work, as well as evidence based approaches such as CBT, DBT, Mindfulness-Based CBT, various Somatic Psychotherapy approaches, and other trauma-informed and nervous system informed theories.
I have a holistic approach to therapy which allows me to guide clients on their own unique journey of growth and healing, honoring the wisdom of the mind, body, and spirit. My approach is depth-oriented, relational, mindfulness-based, somatic, and trauma-informed. I integrate traditional talk therapy with the use of mindfulness practices, somatic (body-oriented) awareness, practices for calming the nervous system and processing trauma, breathwork, self-compassion, guided imagery, parts-work, and the expressive arts (using symbolism, visual art, poetry, music, movement, & sandtray, when interested) to deepen the healing process.

As a somatic (body oriented) and present centered therapist (exploring your current reality versus just the past) I work particularly well with people having experience or interest in working with awareness of sensation and emotion in the body.
You will feel it when you sit with me, this is my life's calling. I was lucky enough to walk the path of healing from an early age because of a devastating life trauma. This brought me to my deep understanding of the healing process. I am committed to accompanying you and catalyzing your journey to health, self-love, ease in relationship and empowerment in the world. My ideal client is going through change, loss, or questioning, needs support and desires a deeper connection to themselves, and satisfaction from their life. Check out my podcast The Healing Feeling Shit Show, a free course in emotional healing to sense how I work.

I use somatic and mindfulness-led methods (trained in Hakomi, Internal Family Systems, Somatic Attachment Therapy) which combine mindfulness with talk to increase self awareness and help insights sink in on a deeper level - rewiring your brain so that you can engage yourself and the world in new ways.
We were born to connect with ourselves and others, to be alive in our bodies and awake in the world, and to anchor into a sense of purpose. Painful experiences and negative patterns can disconnect us from our innate ability to full-heartedly live life. When you are stuck, dissatisfied in relationship, challenged by life transition, constrained by depression or anxiety, unable to heal from trauma, or simply feeling called to step more fully into your best self, therapy can be a powerful ally. I offer tools you can use to reconnect with your own power, resilience, and wholeness.

I primarily work relationally but also use somatic and mindfulness interventions with clients who are experiencing anxiety, depression or other struggles.
When we foster a space of compassion and curiosity we have more room to gain a deeper understanding of ourselves, our boundaries and our desires. By creating this intentional space, we can increase opportunities for choice in our lives. Using a combination of relational, psychodynamic and mindfulness techniques I will help you to understand your own emotional landscape, so you can feel better equipped to manage stressful moments in life and have more capacity for joy and meaning. I specialize in working with the LGBTQI population and also with couples of all constellations.

My work draws on relational, psychodynamic, somatic and mindfulness practices to support shorter term work (6 months to 2 years) involving problem exploration, healthy paradigm shift and skills integration, or longer term work for deeper understanding, greater stability and lasting change.
It's hard to go it alone with painful feelings of confusion, guilt, sadness, anxiety or despair. I help you access and unravel internal knots related to work or school performance, conflictual relationships, gender and sexuality, addictive behaviors, struggles with self-care and body image, or a family history troubled by dysfunction, divorce, addiction, mental illness, abuse, unresolved conflict or estrangement from loved ones.

I believe that the soul has an innate drive toward healing. We each have the capacity to heal ourselves if we can slow down enough to notice what is asking for our attention. I approach therapy as a weekly collaborative ritual in which clients can become more skilled at listening and giving voice to their inner knowing. Weaving together tools from expressive arts, somatic experiencing, and trauma-informed relational psychotherapy, I offer an integrated, whole-person approach in which we work as a team to uncover your intuitive guidance and learn how to tap in to the wisdom of your higher self.

Recovery from trauma, working on communication and relationships, overcoming addiction, spiritual self-development and healing, and coping with depression/stress from major life transitions are common themes. I have taught and supervised therapists in training at various local agencies. I also have a background in holistic and shamanic healing.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
