I enjoy working with individuals who are feeling ready to share their experiences with a trusted therapist and explore things for themselves. Many of my clients have experienced significant life stressors (at work, their family upbringing, relationships, and medical issues) and are feeling anxious, depressed, or stressed. They are looking to reconnect with their needs, feelings, and wants. Many of my clients' goals include building a meaningful life with positive relationships with others and taking steps towards building a better future for themselves.

EVENING and WEEKEND appointments available: Good therapy solves problems, stimulates growth, and heals. If you’re a man tackling personal challenges, a couple seeking harmony and passion, a mental health professional needing an ear from a peer, or simply someone having a hard time, there is hope. Lately, you may not feel like yourself. Perhaps you feel unappreciated and lonely, are grappling with relationships, existential anxiety, or grief, and find yourself coping in unhealthy ways. If you yearn to foster connections, find meaning, gain confidence, or recapture the achiever within, you are worth the investment.

At times we find ourselves buried and burdened in responsibility, regret, relationships, grief or oppression. Therapy is an under sought treatment of pain that cannot always be seen. Therapy is a tool for unearthing the resiliency inside of us to aid in healing. Therapy is not the easy road. It takes courage to seek help in this way and I congratulate you for taking this step.

Whether you’ve tried therapy before or this is your first time, the process of choosing a therapist and getting started can feel overwhelming. It’s daunting, but important, as I believe the fit between client and therapist is one of the most important parts of treatment. I look at therapy as a partnership and try to adapt my therapeutic approach to each client’s unique needs. My goal is to create a safe space where you feel both validated and challenged. Everyone should have an environment where they feel comfortable discussing their thoughts and processing their emotions free of any judgment.

I believe that healing is ongoing, met by exploring what feels vulnerable. I feel called to supportively hold space for adults who are dealing with depression, anxiety, trauma symptoms, and relationship challenges. My clients and I work through issues that are impacting their relationships and life. I serve as a guide for my clients as they work on shifting how they view themselves and the world we share through improving self-esteem, self-worth, and relational dynamics. I find value in processing how life experiences have shaped who we are and who we are becoming. My approach is depth-based, with a focus on attachment theory.

A part of being human is dealing with things that feel painful. It has been said that pain is inevitable but suffering is a choice. Over my 20+ years of work, I have appreciated helping people ease their suffering and cope with painful feelings and experiences. Through safe, open and honest discussion people learn to invite and foster the changes they want to see in their lives and in themselves.

My ideal client is one who wants to building a collaborative relationship that will help to foster change. I believe that most of the work of therapy happens in between sessions, so my clients will benefit if they are willing to practice the things that we agree will be helpful. I am less focused on diagnoses than beliefs, feelings, and behaviors that are amenable to change. I am hoping that my clients have decided that they are willing to be vulnerable at this point in their lives and that they are open to having me participate in their journey toward a more effective life strategy.

I have been trained in treatment modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma Focused- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Schema Therapy and have completed Phase One training in Brainspotting.
At times, we may find ourselves lost on the journey of life questioning who we are and how we got here. I would love to join with you on your path as we sort through what is and what may have been. I have found that as we sift through previous life experiences, the thoughts, feelings and beliefs that have been developed about the world, self and others tend to make sense. I hope that I can then provide a space to examine the roots of our life, honor these roots, and then integrate them into your current framework. It is one of my life's greatest honors to explore our stories and reprocess how they have impacted us.

My approach will differ depending on the client, but I use a mix of psychodynamic, CBT, schema therapy and DBT.
I have always had a desire to help others and create less suffering in those around me. I have worked with elementary aged children, adolescents and adults. I have found my niche in adolescent mental health, relationship issues, depression, anxiety, grief, multicultural concerns, and LGBTQIA+ concerns. I tend to focus heavily on the therapeutic relationship and guiding my clients through intense self-exploration. We all have a variety of identities that intersect and make us who we are!

I have been in the helping profession for over 25 years, working with a wide variety of clients across the life span. I approach clients with an open mind, encouraging them to set their goals and collaborate with me to resolve their problems and issues. I am solution-focused, asking, "what do you need to be the healthiest person you can be? How can I help?" Clients have told me they most appreciate that I listen, do not judge, and provide an empathetic ear. I find clients often have the answer to their issues, but they need help recognizing that answer. Yes, change is hard, but it can be accomplished with faith and work.

Schema Therapy

How does schema therapy work?

Schema therapy is based on the idea that maladaptive thought patterns formed in childhood—that other people can never be relied on, for example—can interfere with healthy functioning in adulthood. Accordingly, schema therapy works by directly targeting such unhealthy schemas, identifying their consequences, and replacing them with more adaptive ways of thinking. To this end, schema therapists aim to “reparent” the client by offering what they didn’t get in childhood—validation, for instance, or compassion—to reorient their worldview.

Is schema therapy evidence-based?

Schema therapy is still considered relatively new, and research on its efficacy is still in progress. However, some studies have concluded that it can be effective at treating certain mental health conditions, most notably personality disorders such as borderline personality disorder. Evidence for its efficacy in treating conditions like depression, anxiety, PTSD, and OCD is promising but less conclusive, and experts warn that much of the existing research is of low quality.

Is schema therapy a type of CBT?

Schema therapy is based on many principles of CBT, most notably the process of recognizing and challenging maladaptive thought patterns. But because schema therapy also draws from other approaches, including psychoanalysis and Gestalt therapy, it is not considered a form of CBT. It also typically delves deeper into the client’s childhood than does CBT.

How does schema therapy work?

Schema therapy does not call for a set number of sessions and is instead open-ended, with the treatment timeline depending on the client’s primary concern(s), progress, and preferences. Treatment that lasts between six months and two years is common, though many clients will start to see progress much earlier than that.
