I have experience and training in working with Faith Expansions, (Christian and LDS/ Mormon church) ADHD, Depression, Anxiety, Betrayal Trauma, Child-Centered Play, Relationship Issues and more.
Hi! I offer a casual, open approach to therapy that includes humor, swearing, art, mental exercises, tears, and hope for the future. My approach is based on working to learn more about why we are the way we are to then show understanding and compassion. As we explore with curiosity we discover the reasons behind what makes us the way we are and gives us a sense of compassion, empathy, and validation towards the parts of ourselves we like the least. I believe that nothing is TMI (too much information) and work to develop a strong supportive relationship to learn about and celebrate my clients.

Do you feel like roommates? When you try to share what is bothering you, does it always turn into an argument? Do you fight about nothing, all the time? Is the emotional softness and tenderness gone? In this place, we lose the safety to talk about what is going on in the deeper levels of our soul, where the feelings of fear, rejection, loneliness, & abandonment exist. I can help you find emotional safety & intimacy with your spouse again. If trauma plays a part in the emotional disconnect we will use proven & effective methods to reduce or remove those sensations, so you can feel safe in allowing your vulnerability to exist again.

Do you find yourself talking in circles and feeling lost, confused, and stuck? No matter how many times you try to talk it out with a family member or friend, you’re left feeling anxious, unsettled, or misunderstood. Your thoughts and emotions feel overwhelming, and the path forward feels foggy and unclear. No one really gets you, and deep down, you doubt anyone truly can. Despite feeling like you’re “too much," you also feel like you are not enough. I understand on an emotional level just how exhausted, lost, and stuck you may feel, and I feel confident that I can help you move towards relief, healing, and growth.

Life is hard, and sometimes feels impossible to navigate. You want to feel better and discover and build your ideal life. You want to enjoy life and be successful. But there are barriers that keep you from this life you desire. Perhaps you find yourself overwhelmed, unmotivated, struggling to make decisions, unable to control your emotions, falling behind in school, work, or other obligations. You remember a time when anxiety, depression, and painful emotions weren’t “the norm” … but those days feel like a distant memory. Don’t you wish you had the tools to change that? Life doesn’t have to stay this way.

Hello! I’m so glad you’re here. I like to think of my work as covering the whole range of family life, from “Minis to Mamas.” Whether I'm on the floor with a six-year-old diving into an art project, helping a teen navigate family conflict or social drama, supporting a college student adjusting to independence, or guiding a parent through the ups and downs of pregnancy and postpartum, I’m passionate about helping you find your way. My goal is to help you uncover your strengths and feel your best, no matter where you are in life.

Do you feel "stuck" in your relationship? Often, people come in, wanting to strengthen their relationship, but feel stuck because their efforts to save the relationship aren't working, and often make things worse. I work with couples to help them get "unstuck" and to help them learn how they got there, and more importantly, how to begin enjoying one another, connecting, and becoming strong supports as they once were for one another. I also work with individuals who feel stuck, personally, in their own lives and in relationships, helping them identify their own patterns and get "unstuck."

My own healing journey began at a very young age. I have had many experiences throughout my life, teaching me that healing is possible. These experiences led me to studying and learning various therapeutic techniques such as: EMDR, Somatic Experiencing and Integral Somatic Psychology. These trauma focused techniques can help guide us through deep suffering and emotional pain, toward healing the mind, body and spirit. Even when your path seems darkest, there is hope and light along the way. It takes courage to face demons from the past and move forward with strength and hope toward the future.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Therapists

Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?

Therapists and clients don’t need to share the same belief system or background to be able to work together effectively, but, especially for those whose concerns relate to their religion or cultural background, a therapist whose training includes a focus on cultural competence may be better able to form a therapeutic bond, even if they do not have an extensive history with or understanding of their client’s background before therapy begins.

Why is it important to find a therapist sensitive to Church of Christ/Latter Day Saints values?

Each individual brings a unique history and background to therapy, making it important to find a licensed therapist who is trained in a broad range of therapeutic modalities. In addition, for people who grow up in a faith tradition such as LDS that strongly influences the conduct of everyday life, finding a therapist who understands or shares that background can ease the disclosure of sensitive information and facilitate the therapeutic process.

Why might someone feel comfortable with an LDS-attuned therapist?

While qualifications and experience are always important, research has long established that a strong alliance between client and therapist is a major contributor to therapeutic effectiveness. It is wise to find a therapist who is responsive to your questions and concerns and with whom you feel you can establish a rapport. A therapist who is sensitive to LDS values and beliefs and the role they play in the lives of Church members can offer Mormon clients a welcome sense of safety, assurance that their community and culture will be understood, and contribute to the bond between client and therapist, all of which support the therapeutic process.

How do I recognize a good LDS therapist?

LDS therapists are licensed mental health professionals—holding a master’s or doctoral degree in medicine, nursing, psychology, counseling, social work, or marriage and family therapy—who are also familiar with Mormon principles and values. They have an understanding of the culture and the important role the Church plays in the lives of individuals and families, which allows them to be especially sensitive to the kinds of emotional difficulties those raised in the faith can be prone to. Like all effective therapists, a good LDS therapist will have undergone training and certification in a variety of treatment modalities that help people through crises and enable them to master the challenges of everyday life.

Who is included in Psychology Today’s directory of Mormon/LDS therapists?

The directory of LDS therapists includes therapists who have shared their cultural background in their profiles. However, not all therapists choose to disclose this information; these individuals would not appear in search results for this reason. The directory also shows therapists who indicate that they have extensive experience working with LDS clients and/or communities, regardless of their own background or religious affiliation.
